Hi I'm Tanya

I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife, a mother, a sister, an advocate and a friend. I love creativity, nature, spirituality, learning... and God.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ. I go to church every Sunday to connect with him and his teachings. I have felt the healing, comforting and loving powers of Christ's atonement over and over in my life. I was born Mormon and I remember receiving answers to my prayers as a child. I remember feeling the warmth and goodness of the Holy Spirit when I was baptized at eight years old. As a missionary in South Africa I prayed and asked God, my Father in Heaven, to give me a sign that what I had believed and felt though out my life was indeed true and from him. I knew and felt it was true, but thought I needed something more tangible since I was inviting everyone around me to pray and ask if the message I had to share was true. That answer soon came as I was briefly explaining to a neighbor the story of Joseph Smith's first vision. As I shared this story in simplicity and without theatrics I was so overwhelmed with love, comfort, peace, joy, light... all of the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 3:5). As I spoke our neighbor felt it too. He said, "I always invite religious people in and listen to what they have to say. I can tell that your message comes from God because I felt it"... I didn't need that experience to know that the message I was sharing and living was, and is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It simply was a witness to me that Christ's church is here on the earth and I feel so lucky to have access to it and his love.

How I live my faith

I love the life I have and I live it with meaning and purpose. Respect for my self and for those around me. Respect for the earth and reverence and acceptance of wisdom in all forms. I trust life and I trust God. I have followed the example of Jesus Christ by making service a priority. Professionally I have worked with at-risk youth, the homeless and foster children in central Australia. Knowing that all of us are children of God has helped me treat these varies groups of people with dignity, even when it has not been easy to do so. I have also volunteered my time serving in the Mormon church. I have been a Sunday School teacher to adults and children. I have worked with the youth and young adults. Serving other people whether it be professionally or with in the Mormon church has helped me become a better person.
