Hi I'm John

I grew up in Arizona. I'm married and have 2 small children. I'm preparing to be a Chaplain in the US Army, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I married my sweetheart in 2006. We have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son who keep us busy, but make us smile every day. I have worked in education advisement for 7 years and love helping people change their lives through education. I just finished a Masters Degree in Counseling so I can continue to help people for the rest of my life. I am preparing to become a Chaplain in the US Army so I can serve God, country, and those who sacrifice so much to protect the cause of freedom. I like going on dates with my wife and playing games with family. I like to build things or work with my hands, although it doesn’t always turn out perfectly :) My favorite part of the day is when I come home from work and my kids run up to me with their arms outstretched screaming “Daddy!” I hope I can always be the kind of man my wife and kids need me to be.

Why I am a Mormon

When my mom was left to raise 6 children on her own, I was the youngest at 4-years-old. She made it a priority for us to read the scriptures together and go to church every Sunday because she knew that in a world of turmoil we would need a solid foundation. She taught me that no matter what I do, my mother and God will always love me. When I entered my teenage years, I took the challenge from my mom and church leaders to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. When I read the whole book by myself and prayed to see if it was true, I didn’t receive an answer immediately. I prayed every day for a week before I finally received an answer. The feeling was unforgettable. I can never deny it. Since that day, I have tried to follow God and honor what I know is true. As I strive to follow Him, I feel happy. I feel like I have been blessed far beyond what I deserve. Although I have my imperfections like everyone else, I know God still loves me. He has taken care of me all these years and in my most difficult of circumstances I have felt Christ help carry my burdens.

How I live my faith

I had the deep honor of serving as a missionary in Sao Paulo, Brazil for 2 years. I learned so much in those 2 years that prepared me for life as a responsible adult, husband, father, leader, and servant of others and God. I have helped to lead the outreach program in our congregation, taught teenagers and children about the scriptures, and participated in church-led musical/theatrical presentations. I focus on living Christian values every day, not just on Sunday. I read the scriptures with my wife and daughter, reach out in prayer to God daily, and try to help lift the burdens of others throughout the week. As I continue to reach out to God and Christ, they are always there for me.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

John
We accept all scriptures that are inspired by prophets and apostles of God. Of course the Bible is an important part of our beliefs as well. Any true Christian believes in the Bible, and we are Christians. Show more Show less
