Hi I'm Kirk Masters

I'm a third generation Mormon who owes his life to a mother who escaped out of communist East Germany when she was only 17.

About Me

I was born into an LDS family and benefited from a belief system that kept me safe and focused. My mother escaped out of communist East Germany at 17 due in large part because of her being Mormon. Her faith helped me develop my love and appreciation for the gospel. At a young age it was easy to believe what those around me held fast to. However, as I approached my 19th birthday it became apparent to me that I needed to have my own foundation of beliefs and not hold to any traditions or expectations from others. I had to do as millions before me had done. I had to study, pray, struggle and really, really want an answer as to whether the true church of Christ was on this earth. Through my study and quest to know God's truths, from him, I knew that God would answer my prayers. Those answers that I wanted came through small but powerful moments that cemented in me a undeniable truth that Jesus Christ's church was on the earth and guided by him.

Why I am a Mormon

Obviously I'm a Mormon because of receiving answers to my prayers. That is an essential and necessary part. I'm also a Mormon because of the absolute clarity that living the gospel gives to my family and me. How wonderful it is to know a true way that I can be happy...even going through hard times like cancer treatments for stage 4 cancer which included chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant. How does one face adversity and hardships without having a loving and all wise Heavenly Father to rely upon? My life and my family are guided by principles that are not created by men, which inevitably always change and modify with the popularities of the day. Rather I am guided by teachings and truths that I feel in my heart are given by a wise and loving Father in Heaven. I'm a Mormon because my prayers where answered. I'm a Mormon because of the safety it avails me when choices are presented to me which would steer me in a wrong direction. I don't need a self-help book. I don't need a 'guru'. I don't need popular notions. What I need is a provident hand that guides me through turbulent waters through teaching and love. I'm a Mormon because my Heavenly Father spoke to my heart and ever since has helped me to understand his will for me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in direct ways. My family is a product of my faith. Leading my family as a loving husband first and a devoted father second sets the tone for how future generations should embrace the family relationship. My faith allows me to see what the most important parts of life should be and where my time should be allocated. I live my faith by being an example to others that wish to live their lives in peace but not subject themselves to the whims of society. I also live my faith by doing more than just worshiping on Sunday. Daily prayer and scripture study focus my schedule with clarity and resolution. Ensuring that my wife and I are equally 'yoked' with responsibilities and expectations makes for a harmonious relationship that is becoming more of a rarity. I live my faith by helping others to understand principles that, whether a Mormon or not, will guide them to a place of greater happiness. Ultimately, I live my faith by respecting and loving the answers I received (and still receive) from my Heavenly Father about the truths of the Church Of Jesus Christ and whether that church truly exists today. Which of course it does! :)
