Hi I'm Mike

I'm a convert to the Church. I'm a teacher. I'm a happy husband and father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am first and foremost a husband and a dad. I'm also a teacher; interestingly enough, a High School Religion teacher for youth of our Church - The correct jargon/title for my position would be 'Seminary Teacher'; I am employed by our Church, not the government. I LOVE my career! I love being with the youth and helping them discover for themselves their place in this crazy, mixed up world. I think the reason I love to help youth is because I, myself, as a teenager, was so lost for so long. I grew up in poverty with an alcoholic dad, no self-esteem and eventually a broken home. In my later teens, I decided to run away from my life; I wasn't really 'running away' because my family and friends knew I was leaving. I gathered all the money I had, threw my clothes in my car and left Wisconsin, my mom and six siblings behind; I was on an adventure that would change my life forever!!

Why I am a Mormon

To make a long story short, I headed for Florida to leave the bitter Wisconsin Winter behind, but, being an inexperienced teenage driver/navigator, I made a few wrong turns and ended up heading west instead of southeast. When I finally realized my error, I had already put on hundred's of miles in the wrong direction. At that point I decided it didn't matter where I ended up, so I kept aimlessly driving and ended up (and ran out of money) in Mesa, Arizona. It was there I was first introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the Mormons! The lifestyle of these people intrigued me, and before long I found myself longing for what they had - especially the family dynamic. Since they were about my same age, I loved learning from the missionaries. I was inspired by their message. I was extremely impressed when they told me I could learn of the truth of their message for myself; they went so far as to tell me that I shouldn't simply believe them, but that I should seek a spiritual confirmation, through prayer. I determined to exert all of my efforts to find out if the things they taught were of God, or not. I received that witness - that was more than thirty years ago, and I have never looked back; I have found truth, love, joy and an ever growing faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I continue to try to align my life with the example that Jesus Christ set in the scriptures. I strive to be the best husband and father I can be - and our Church continually offers Christ-centered instruction on how to best accomplish that desire. I try to be of service, not only in my congregation, but in the community as well. It seems since my baptism into the Church, I have always had opportunities to teach others of Christ - from preschool age to teenagers to adults. I LOVE what this Church has done to better my self worth and my self reliance; but mostly, myself!!!
