Hi I'm Norman Catanzaro

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am have been retired for about 25 years, and have been married for 61 years. I have 4 children, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. I worked in heavy construction for about 15 years all over the USA and as materials supervisor in an industrial plant for 21 years. I served for 2 years in the army during world war 2. My hobbies before I joined the church were hunting and fishing. After i joined the church my main hobby was researching my family history.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 29 years old, married and had an 8 month old child. The misionaries called at our house and my wife invited them back when I would be home. I listened to the first few lessons our of curiosity but when they taught us a lesson tiltled The Plan of Salvation, I became very interested. My mother died when I was 11 years old and a sister had died when she was seven years old, neither having been baptized. The churches I was familiar with taught that you must be baptised into their church to be saved or that baptism wasn't necessary for salvation. The Plan of Salvation provides the way for all who have lived, are living or will live to be saved by being taught the gospel in the next life and being baptized by proxy here on earth. They supported this lesson with quotes from 1st Peter chapter 3 verses 18 and 19 and chapter 4 verse 6 where it talks about the gospel being taught in the next life, and 1st Corinthians chapter 15 verse 29 where it talks about being baptized for the dead. I read the Book of Mormon in a few days and the spriit bore witness to me that it was scripture. They taught us much more about priesthood authority being restored through Joseph Smith and temple ordinances where work for the dead is performed. We joined the church after being taught for about 2 months. I know that I belong to the true church of Jesus Christ and that we are lead by prophets of God.

How I live my faith

I have served in most positions in our local churches and am currently serving as a family history consultant and Sundayschool president. My wife and I also serve as ordinance workers in our assigned temple. We live in a mobile home park and I have served as the president of our park association for 6 years, For years i was involved in local politicts as a precinct committee man. I have been married to the same lovely woman for 61 years. We have 3 grand children and 7 great grand childre. My wife and I served an 18 month mission in Belize Central America and a 2 year mission in the local Institute of Religion.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Norman Catanzaro
The new testament, in the gospel of John, 1st Corinthians and 1st Peter, teaches that we can be taught the gospel in the spirit world after we are dead and can be baptized for the dead. As my mother and a little sister died without being baptized this has meant a lot to me. I have felt the spirits of some of my ancestors for whom I have performed this work. Show more Show less
