Hi I'm Tolani

I grew up on a few American Indian reservations in the US, I'm American Indian, a veterinarian, a veteran and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Veterinary Epidemiologist for the USDA, I work on large animals and wildlife. I am trained as a Foreign Animal Disease specialist, so I am on call for a deployment for a possible emerging disease 24/7. I have lived in Bolivia and 5 states in the US. I have worked in Alaska on cariboo, Scotland and England on sheep and goats, Egypt on birds and Mexico on cattle. Of course when I was stationed in Bolivia, I traveled thru South America as well working on cattle, sheep, goats, horses and pigs. I have been married twice to non-members, My mother and I are the only members in our family and there are very few members on my reservation. I have served as an Officer in the US Air Force and maintain close ties to the military as a reservist.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised with our native religion by my father, my mother was LDS (they met at BYU) but my dad wanted us to decide for ourselves what religion we wanted to follow. It was not until I was in college that I truly decided I wanted to be LDS. I never attended Institute classes, but I have always been very close to the church and attended my meetings and was active after classes. I knew I wanted to be a Veterinarian and have always felt it was a calling from the Lord. I gained a testimony when I was in college and had a number of experiences that helped me understand the will of the Lord. I have always practiced my native religion and when I was endowed in the temple, I knew where my native religion came from. I can never deny this church is from the Lord and it is his church.

How I live my faith

Sometimes it can be very difficult to follow the teachings when you are surrounded by death and destruction as I often find myself. But it is also what keeps me going in these cases. Because of my faith, I am able to understand that death is only for this existence and that we will go on to another existance where we can be reunited with our loved ones, even ones we may have never met. Being a veterinarian, I have a exceptional love for all of the Lords creatures and I truly believe we will even be reunited with our pets that are such a vital part of this life. I try to be a good example to my father and my grandparents since they are not members of the church. I attend the temple at least once or twice a month. As I travel the world, I make a point to attend the temple where ever I am. I have had the blessing of temple attendence in 9 countries and 9 states in the US, I hope to extend it in the future. I have taught Primary and the Adults, but my favorite Sunday School calling is the one I currently have, teaching the 16-17 year old youth. They are so strong and I know they will have a hard road ahead of them and I am honored the Lord has chosen me to be apart of preparing them for this.
