Hi I'm John

I am a husband, a father (5 kids), the budget director for a multi-billion dollar organization, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I met my wife 16 years ago at school. It took a few months, but she became the center of my life and continues to be. As mentioned we have five children that keep us very busy. We love camping, movies, sports (I guess that is mostly me that loves sports) swimming and church. My wife is the social one while I am kid of quite. She forces me out of my comfort zone and I try to keep her in one. We generally work out to be a good balance. Work is exciting most days, and I like my job very much. I enjoy interacting with so many different types of people, from the head of our organization to new kids we hire out of school. It seems like I learn something new almost every day. I pick up random new hobbies on occasion, but never seem to settle on one thing. In the last couple of years, I have picked up the guitar, built a model dollhouse (that was fun), and tried model rockets. My only consistent hobby is reading, and I enjoy all types of books.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me to pray when I was very young. As a small boy, I remember praying to God and feeling His response, His love, and caring for me. Since then, God has answered my prayers many times. I love praying to God everyday and I know He is there. I know He is my father. I know Him and I love Him. I know that I am God’s son. I choose to be a Mormon because I believe this is what God wants for me. This is His plan to keep me close to Him and help me to grow and be the best person I can be. Besides, being a Mormon makes me happy. It keeps me close to my family, it helps me find balance between my responsibilities at work and those at home, it reminds me to love those around me and do my best to be a good friend. Being a Mormon helps me to know and love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that He died for me and I feel I can best honor that sacrifice by doing my best to keep His commandments. Being a Mormon helps me do just that. I love being a Mormon; it is what I want to be.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon kind of involves every part of my life. I pray every day and try to pray many times a day. I read the scriptures every day and try to follow their teachings. Our family starts every day together with family prayer and scripture study. I even make the kids sing before we start. I love this time together to talk, read, and discuss the scriptures. As the kids get older, it seems I have fewer chances to be with them. Scripture time gives me 30 minutes each day where I can try to influence them and prepare them for the day. At church, my wife and I teach Sunday school for high school seniors. They are so smart and inquisitive. I enjoy watching them make these important decisions about post high school life. We try and encourage them to pray about these decisions and to study and rely on the scriptures. This last year we studied the four gospels and tried to help them come to know their Savior. We hope they can build that personal relationship with Him that has brought joy to our lives. We have also spent time serving with scouts, at girls camp (for 12 to 18 year old girls), and whatever else is needed.
