Hi I'm Kimball Porter

I fly-fish, play golf, tennis and my guitar. I'm an insurance agent and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Georgia and South Carolina, moved to the west at age 21and then served a two year mission for the Mormon Church in Rosario, Argentina. Knowing the spanish language has been very useful in my life. I graduated from Arizona State University in English Literature and the next year started an agency with State Farm Insurance. I married a beautiful western girl and have two sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and two very special grandchildren. I have enjoyed working with and mentoring youth through the years. My wife and I love to fly fish in the Arizona and Utah mountains. There is so much peace and beauty in a fly fishing setting. I have played many sports but several knee surgeries have limited me to golf and tennis which still gives me the competition that I have enoyed so much in sports throughout my life. I have played the guitar since I was little. My brother and I have performed together many times throughout the years. Getting older brings aches and pains but also great joys associated with lifetime memories and present interaction with a growing posterity. Life has been and continues to be beautiful.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a mormon family in the South. Growing up with the values I was taught was difficult at times because there were so few mormons where I lived. I think I always believed what my parents had taught me but after my first year of college I truly became converted as I studied, fasted and prayed over the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I felt an overwhelming spiritual manifestation which has given me the strength to serve a two year mission for the Church as well as teach and minister to others throughout my life. I feel a tremendous love for Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for me. I know that he is the Son of God and my personal Savior. I know that God directs his children through living prophets and my life has been blessed by their counsel and example. I am so happy that God has again placed temples on the earth so that we can covenant with him and be sealed to our families for eternity. I know this is true.

How I live my faith

I have had great opportunities to serve in the LDS church throughout the years. I have spent many years working with teenage youth in the Boy Scout program and the church's youth programs. I have had the wonderful opportunity to preside over a congregation of young single adults ages 18 - 31 for several years. There my wife and I had marvelous experiences teaching, counseling, playing with, and loving these young people. I have taught religion classes to the youth and worked in our church's missionary program for many years. I hope that my faith is manifest in my example and how I live my life. My desire is to follow the Savior Jesus Christ and that is done through knowing his teachings and trying to live them.
