Hi I'm Eric

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 33 years old - a father of three and a husband - married to the most amazing girl in the world. I am an entrepreneur by heart and a software engineer by trade. I love playing basketball, mountain biking, riding quads, wrestling and playing video games with my kids, camping, and running with my wife (or chasing my wife might be a more accurate description). I like physical activities, but wasn't blessed with a keen sense of balance or coordination, so I end up hurting myself pretty often. In addition to numerous stitches, cuts, sprains, and bruises, I've had screws, bone grafts, surgeries, and even had my jaw wired shut after I broke it in 2 places. I'm currently waiting to go in for my second bone graft/screw procedure on my right wrist. I also have a huge passion for music. I've played the piano since I was eight - and also play the organ and guitar. I started a company with my brother and brother-in-law ten years ago - and we're still going strong. Even though the company has grown pretty large, I still prefer hiding out in a corner writing code. Even when I'm not writing code at work, I've always got some side project going on. I'm currently working on a volunteer basis writing software for the Boy Scouts of America. I'm an introvert and usually pretty shy meeting new people - a real homebody as well - I usually warm up once I'm more comfortable. Fortunately my wife is a homebody as well. I also come from a family of 10 kids - I'm the 5th.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a storied LDS ancestry. My Martineau ancestors were Heugenots (French Protestants) that immigrated to Holland and then to New York in the 17th century. Curiosity got the best of my great great great grandfather James Henry Martineau, when some fellow travelers (on their way from New York to California) warned him not to pass through Salt Lake City because the Mormons would probably kill him. He was so fascinated by the people in Salt Lake City that he decided to stay their for a season to "observe" them. The rest is history... He was called on to settle Parawon, Utah My grandpa grew up in Colonia Juarez in Mexico until the age of 20, when he moved up to Mesa, Arizona. So, to answer why I continue to be a Mormon: eternal families, moral standards, self-reliance and provident living, charity, patriotism, music, freedom, and hope.

How I live my faith

I served a mission in Montreal, QC from 1997-1999, though I spent most of my time in downtown Ottawa and upstate New York. I currently serve as a Stake Mission Prep Instructor, where I help young men and women get ready to serve a church mission, and I play the organ each Sunday for our church meetings. My family has been blessed in so many ways, and I try to be available to serve in any opportunity that presents itself, even if it's not a formal responsibility. Other than that, I try to live by the two great commands: love my God, and love my neighbor.
