Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in a small town in Alabama. I love to travel. I love to go to the beach. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in the "Bible-belt" of the Southern United States, specifically, a small town called Opp, Alabama. Whenever I graduated High School there were only two people in my whole school who were members of the Church, myself and my dad, who worked at the school I attended! My parents moved to the town where we lived not terribly long after we were married. I was born "into the Church" but as I attended school, I was just filled with a sense that it would be more fun to go and attend a Baptist church instead. I started attending Wednesday night youth services and one night the youth minister began bashing Joseph Smith - it was then that I realized that I needed to gain my own testimony of whether or not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was true. I prayed and I received an answer that it was true and now here I am! Right now, I am serving as a Full-Time Missionary for the Church in the Utah St. George Mission. I love being able to see the beautiful red rock here and be able to be around so much history of the Church. But most of all, I love helping other people come closer to Jesus Christ which is what I have been able to do as I live the teachings of Jesus Christ. I still make mistakes and I still need help but I am continually amazed by how much love our Heavenly Father shows to us - especially when we keep His commandments.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have witnessed miraculous changes in my life and in other peoples lives through living the Gospel. I would not know what to do if there wasn't a living prophet on the earth today. I am also a Mormon because I believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by constantly striving to be an example to others and by trying to find ways to help people that I come into contact with.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Whenever missionaries come and visit you they share with you ways that you can make your life better. They also teach you about how our Heavenly Father has established a plan where we can go back and live with him again. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is often referred to as the "Mormon Church" because we believe in an additional book of scripture named The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is an additional witness that Jesus Christ is the son of God. The Book of Mormon is named after Mormon, a prophet-historian in the Book of Mormon who compiled the writings that are found in the sacred book of scripture that millions have testified is indeed true. Who is the Mormon prophet today?

The current Prophet is President Thomas S. Monson. He leads the Church here on earth and he is assisted by two counselors, Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf! It would be so hard to take care of people all over the world just by yourself and even with just a few people it would be hard so there are also 12 Apostles, just like Jesus Christ had! I love that the organization of the church matches the way that Jesus Christ set up his church anciently. Show more Show less
