Hi I'm Alex

I have a beautiful wife and baby daughter. I am working on my doctorate in physical therapy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Oregon. I am the youngest of three brothers. During high school I competed in Cross Country and Track and Field, running mostly distance 1500m and 3000m. If running didn't already keep me busy I also did theater. After high school, I served a mission for the church in Mexico where I learned to speak Spanish. I loved every minute of it I got to meet so many great people and tell them about the church. My mom is from Spain so it has been fun to be able to talk with her now in Spanish. I went to school in Idaho, and met my wife while living there. We have a 1 year old daughter. Currently I am living in Arizona studying physical therapy.

Why I am a Mormon

Ever since I was little my family has attended the Mormon Church, but of course I had to decide for myself if this is really what I believed. During high school my Mom and Dad went through a divorce and during that time my Dad decided to go completely against the Mormon Church. I can remember that during those times I found myself pondering and studying the scriptures the most. I needed to know if my Mom was right for continuing to attend the church or if I should believe my Dad. Luckily our Heavenly Father blesses us with a way that we can know for ourselves what is true. Through sincere prayer and study I came to know that the church is true. The Book of Mormon was a key to knowing that what the church taught was true because every time I picked it up and read I felt our Heavenly Father confirming that what I read was true. One truth I cherish is that our Heavenly Father has loved us so much that he gave His only begotten Son to die for us, that we may return to live with him. Like any loving father he wants us to be able to experience what he has, and to become like Him. Because of that He has created a plan that if we follow Him we can return to Him with our families. When we had our daughter and I was able to look into her eyes I felt at that time, a little of what our Heavenly Father feels for us. The greatest joys we can feel here on earth are with our families. I want to live with my family not only for this life but beyond, and the gospel of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice make it possible for us to do so.

How I live my faith

I currently haven't received a specific assignment in the area I am living in now, however there are always opportunities to serve. Before moving here just a few months ago, I served as a secretary to our Bishop, who stands as the leader of a specific group of members of the church called a ward. Through out the world there are many wards and each has a Bishop. I worked closely with him to set up appointments, make calls to people and attend meetings where we discussed the needs of the members in the ward. Something I loved about that assignment was the opportunities to serve so many different people. Whether the family just had a baby or were having trouble financially we had the opportunity to discuss how we could help them. Although I have no specific assignment now, I try to look for opportunities to serve whether in the community or at church there is always someone who needs a helping hand. It can be as simple as a smile or helping someone at school. Simple acts of service go a long way.
