Hi I'm Jared

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father, a husband and a son. I like sports, spending time with my wife and kids and extended family when I can. I can't say that anything I do right now is extraordinary, I have had the chance in the past to serve as a missionary, worked disasters, deployed as a civilian to Afghanistan, and worked for the Marine Corps in the past. Now, with what one might consider more exciting times behind me, I find enjoyment in spending more time with my wife and kids, focusing on being a good Dad, and raising good children. My wife and kids are the most important things in my life right now. I gauge my success in life on how well I do as a father, not by how exciting my job is or where my jobs can take me. My greatest joys are my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Well...I'm third generation Mormon. My Grandfather and Grandmother joined the LDS faith when my father was a young boy. Once my father was eligible he joined the military and became less active until shortly before I was born when my Mother became a member and got him whipped back into shape. So I like many members grew up in the church and for a long time I was a member because my parents were. Now that I'm out of the house the reason's are different. I no longer rely on my parent's faith to keep me going to church. Over the years I have had more than one trial of my faith. Being fairly educated and most of that education being acquired outside of a religious institution I have been taught what you might call the " teachings of man". I have also spent much of my time in areas that are far more liberal than my own beliefs, these liberal beliefs come with some pretty good arguments. I chose to dig in and learn more vs. ignoring these arguments and at times my faith was shaken, but after study, and learning more about my own faith, I believe I'm stronger for it. I am a member because of my belief that God does have a plan for us. That we came to this earth for a reason and I found the reason in the LDS faith. I'm here to grow and learn, to do my best, to progress as a person and as a child of God and to one day return to him. I'm a big fan of the "Big Picture" and as a Mormon, I have found that "Big Picture" I know why God sent me here and what I need to do to get back to be with him.

How I live my faith

Well for better or worse, the guy you see in Church on Sunday is the guy you would see at work on Monday to Friday. I'm by no means perfect, I try to do my best, serve others when I get a chance and treat everyone equally. I believe that we all have the same value or worth as human beings. I'm not super out going, but I share my beliefs with others when I get the opportunity. I teach the 11-12 yr old Sunday school class, get together with family and friends for "family home evenings" on Mondays. We aren't the best at it but we try to read the scriptures with our kids, and we pray together as a family. I believe that religion isn't a Sunday activity but that it should reflect who you are on a day to day basis.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jared
Simply put, No. we don't. I personally put him in the same class with all the other prophets you can read about in the scriptures. By no means was he perfect. Did he have his faults? Yes. I can't think of anyone who has set a foot on this planet who was perfect save Jesus. What he was was called by God to restore the gospel in it's fullness and that he did. Show more Show less
