Hi I'm Shiree

I grew up in the Washington, DC, area. I was recently married and work for our local newspaper doing advertising. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work in advertising, but my favorite thing to do is spend time with family and friends. I also enjoy learning and exploring new things, and I love good food!

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized when I was eight years old. I didn't know much about other religions at that time, but I knew that what I was doing felt right and I was so excited to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized like he was. When I was in middle school, my family moved from a small farming community in Northern Utah (where most of the people I knew were members of the church) to the suburbs of Washington, DC. I was scared about what others would think of me because I had heard stories of the early members of the church and the persecutions they went through and, in my young teenage mind, thought I might receive similar persecutions! Because of this fear, it took me a long time to make friends at school. Home and church became my havens of peace where I could truly be myself and not feel like I had to hide any part of who I was. Once I realized that people didn't care what religion I was, it became much easier for me to make friends and be myself. They were actually interested in what I believed and I was excited to answer their questions. One day, a friend asked me a question I hadn't really put much thought into, "How do you know it's true?" I hadn't thought about it much because I just knew, I had never asked myself HOW I knew. At that time I was taking an early morning seminary class and we had been talking a lot about prayer and receiving answers to our questions. Our teacher challenged us to pray and ask God if the Church was true. So I did. I think I expected an angel to come down and give me my answer. An angel never came, so I went to bed. I tried again the next night and many nights after that until one night I felt my answer, "You already know." I truly feel that God had been answering me every night, but I had not taken the time to listen. I know that God knows who I am and that he loves me and guides me. He wants the best for me. Therefore, I try to live the way he would have me live.

How I live my faith

I teach the Junior and Senior High School girls at church on Sunday. I love working with the Youth! I think of all the people who guided me in my youth and helped me become who I am today. I hope that I can inspire the girls I work with to always do their best and achieve their full potential as daughters of God.
