Hi I'm Kathy

I grew up in California. I'm a wife, mother, an Interpreter for the deaf, became a writer, love horses, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a passion for learning so I'm always trying new things. I find that when I acquire new skills or hobbies I'm bound to have something in common when I meet other people for the first time if being a wife, mother, grandmother or woman don't fully connect. Right now I'm learning French and am in the process of getting back into horses. I enjoy gardening and just plain like dirt (outside), history fascinates me along with researching information to include in my writing and poetry. My interpreting for the deaf has become useful in my ward at church and with the economy like it is I'm grateful for the opportunity to keep up my skills.

Why I am a Mormon

It's become a conscious choice for me to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. My mother married a non-member, who went through his share of missionaries before his conversion when I was about 12. My mother was faithful in taking me and my brother to church and saw that my father was a good man waiting for the opportune moment, but his gentleness of heart showed me just how positive inner strength can be. Because I was raised in an LDS home I had to discover for myself if the gospel was true. It always felt right, but it wasn't until I was married and began having children that I began analyzing the why. I talked with people who were converted and yearned for some experience to confirm the truth for me. At this time I was teaching Sunday School to a group of ten/eleven year-olds who challenged me with their questions. In turn I would go home and search for answers. Through this I gained an enthusiastic momentum while reading the Book of Mormon, Bible, other standard works of scripture, but it was my husband who brought it to my attention. I felt good, but I didn't seem to be satisfied and continued to search. I read a story-in the New Era- about a young high school age woman, who was striving for the same 'blazing' witness as I. Her answer was that she already knew. I, too, received my witness as I was in tears. I already knew the gospel of Jesus Christ was true, and I did. Now it was time to increase and strengthen my faith, and I am!

How I live my faith

I enjoy working with the youth! I've had various stewardships that place me in situations to interact with so many. My husband and I coordinate and lead the young women of our stake on challenging backpack trips where they learn to rely on themselves and to support each other as they repel, boulder, hike, go spelunking, and learn to camp. I also treasure my involvement in the scouting program as a merit badge counselor, advancement chair, and eagle scout mentor. It's a blessing to watch someone discover something they enjoy and can be skilled at, and what better programs than those provided through the Church? I've organized girls camp for our stake/ward and put together service projects to benefit different organizations in our community. EX: we gathered school supplies and had members of our stake come assemble them into backpacks and gave them to an organization in Denver just before school started. I enjoy teaching, too. I was recently released as a second counselor in our women's organization, Relief Society, and called to be a teacher in the same organization. I'm teaching from the addresses given in General Conference, which provides the chance to strengthen the faith of others alongside mine.
