Hi I'm Shawn

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Salt Lake City, and served a full-time mission to Hong Kong. I know that Jesus Christ lives.

About Me

I am married, and my wife and I were sealed in the Bountiful temple.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a firm testimony of the truthfulness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, and I know that His church was restored by the power of the priesthood, through Joseph Smith. I also know that we have a living prophet on the earth today, who is currently Thomas S. Monson. I have witnessed in my own life, and know firsthand, of the power from the sacred work that is done in our temples, and that allows us to be together as families forever, if we live up to the promises and covenants made in those temples. I have a knowledge of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and recognize it as another testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. Through its teachings, we learn why we are here, and can better understand our Heavenly Father's plan for us. He truly loves us, and wants us to be happy. True joy can be found through abiding by the standards of the LDS church, and by making righteous choices. The beauty of our Saviors atonement, also allows us to fully repent of our sins, and be worthy of all of the blessings that God has in store for us, if we will just seek Him through humility, prayer, and obedience.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as the ward Sunday School President, and I have a calling as a Home Teacher. Both of these allow me to help bless the lives of others, through serving in our ward, and in the community. I also enjoy singing, and love to share the singing talents that I have been blessed with, with those around me. In addition, I have participated in many scouting activities, including camp outs, with my sons.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Mormons are very much like other people, however, we do have specific principles and beliefs that influence our behavior and choices. For example, when attending our church meetings on Sunday, and while worshiping at our temples, we dress in our best attire such as suits, white shirts & ties for men, and dresses, or skirts and blouses for women. This helps us maintain a spirit of reverence, and also helps us show our respect for our Heavenly Father and for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We consider our churches or chapels, as well as our temples, to be God's house. They are similar in that both are places of worship, but temples require a recommend which a church member may obtain through living a life that is focused on righteousness. Mormons observe the same holidays that most others do within their same culture. In the United States Mormons celebrate many holidays such as Valentines Day, Independence Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving, but the two holidays we hold most sacred and special are Easter and Christmas. These two are unique and very special because they are a reflection of the Atonement (Easter) and birth (Christmas) of Jesus Christ. Mormons are very much family-oriented. We practice marriage between one man and one woman, and we raise children and teach them our beliefs. Mormons are involved in family history work which includes learning about our ancestors, and performing temple work for our kindred dead. Show more Show less
