Hi I'm Maurice

I'm a Mormon. I've lived in Spokane Washington most of my life.

About Me

I was born in California. My parents moved back to Eastern Washington after my dad's enlistment in the navy ended. I grew up in Eastern Washington as a child and as a youth. I met a wonderful woman and we have lived in Spokane ever since. We raised three wonderful children. I love to read books. I use to check many books in elementary school. The library was one of my favorite places to go. I have many favorite authors. I enjoyed reading all the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs I could get my hands on as a young man. I also loved Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Robert Louis Stevenson and other classics. Histories and historical fiction are also a source of personal enjoyment to me. I like to occasionally watch an old black and white Tarzan movie. I love to walk our dog in the cool mornings, helping us both get our exercise, and watch her chase squirrels.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents were converts to the Mormon church when they were young. I was raised and taught faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ. I am thankful for those teachings as it helped me to understand why I am hear on this earth. I learned how to pray and seek answers from God for myself. I have learned how God answers prayers through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost has born witness to me many times of the truths of His Gospel restored to the earth again through the prophet Joseph Smith. I cherish highly the feelings I have received from the Holy Ghost. I know that we do not have to wander in darkness or wonder what our purpose on earth is. The Lord has established His Church, and set up prophets and apostles to guide and direct us and bless our families. I am a better husband and father because I follow the teachings of the Lord. My testimony of restored truth helps me to live better, be a better husband, father, and member of the community. What a great blessing it is to receive answeres to prayers and a testimony of truth. I know God does indeed live. We are not alone. We are loved, cared for, and can be guided if we so wish. He will respect our agency to choose. I know that is the only way we can really grow to be a better person, is if we choose to follow His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Savior and Redeemer. Through His atoning sacrifice we can repent and be cleansed from our sins as we come to Him and obey His commandments. He has called prophets on the earth again like in bible days. Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet. He was given the power to translate the Book of Mormon, another book of scripture and witness to our Lord. How grateful I am for that and how needful today is that second witness of the Lord Jesus Christ as a companion to the bible. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lord's church on the earth today by His divine directon. Of this I testify.

How I live my faith

I was able to serve a mission for the mormon church and went to Australia for two years and taught others who were interested in learning more about the church. Since then I have been able to teach youth and adult classes. As a holder of the priesthood I have been able to visit and make friends with many others who were members of the church. I also have had opportunities to help Bishops with secretary duties and administrative tasks. I have had the blessing of serving as a Bishop of a congregation for several years. I have come to know many people, their families, their struggles and blessings. It has been a honor to help them in anyway that I could. My greatest blessing has been to be a good husband and father for my family, to help each other live together in love and help each other grow so that we can be togther in the next life.
