Hi I'm Emory

I am a Mormon - and will soon serve as a senior missionary in Tokyo Japan.

About Me

Professionally,  I have been a hospital pharmacist and pharmacy educator, now on personal sabbatical in preparation for serving a one-year mission in Japan. I am a husband, father, and "Papa" to 15 grandchildren. I really love our family! My wife and I received a call to serve as full-time missionaries with an assignment to serve as office specialists in the Japan Tokyo Mission. We report in late August 2017.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon at age 8 when my family joined the Church. Mormon missionaries came though our Sharpstown Houston neighborhood knocking doors in late 1964. My mother felt that she had questions about the purpose of life that were not fully addressed by our Methodist faith, and welcomed them into our home. I still remember being taught certain things. The missionaries used a flannel board to show the state of the early Christian church when the foundation of apostles and prophets was removed (it fell into apostasy). I remember being taught that God was literally a loving Heavenly Father and we were his spiritual offspring. I remember attending the LDS church for the first time with my family. I really enjoyed the children’s “Primary” where we sang a lot of songs. We were eventually baptized into the church, and I have been an active member ever since. When I became 19, I was called to a two-year mission to Japan. The experience was wonderful and has paid dividends and influenced my whole life. I met my future wife in the LDS congregation of Fremont, California. Her forebears were Mormons from the early days of the Church. They crossed the Great Plains in the mid-1800’s to settle in Utah and Idaho (where she was born). We have raised our family of 5 children in the LDS faith. I testify that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son - that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. I am so grateful to have the Lord with me during my walk through life - especially during the tough times. What a blessing! I testify that God has called prophets and apostles and restored His priesthood power to man. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth in these Latter-Days to bless mankind and prepare the earth for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Most of my service in the Church has been with the youth and the young men's program where we participate in Boy Scouts. - I really enjoy the teaching opportunities it presents. I am looking forward to full-time Church service as a Senior Missionary. - What a great opportunity to return to Japan and serve again!
