Hi I'm Dan Hakes

Married to the girl of my dreams with 3 amazing children. They are who I like to spend time with. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of 3 great kids. I enjoy spending time with my family and my extended family. I grew up spending as much time with my cousins as I did my school friends. Even now, my family is who I would prefer to spend time with. I enjoy anything outdoors; camping, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, rapelling, climbing, fishing, and watching the sun come up or go down. I am fortunate to own my own insurance business which allows me to spend time with my family. I am one that can't sit still too long. I enjoy creating projects for myself, if my wife hasn't done so already. Most of my projects include building something with wood. Shelves, tables, rabbit hutches, frames, or just about anything I can come up with. If I am not on a project, it's likely fall and I am trying to watch college football. I love college football! I like all sports. If my body would let me I would play them all, but time is taking its toll so the impact sports are turning into the low impact. I enjoy life and all it challenges.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who raised me to think. Perhaps they were frustrated by all the thinking I did. But I learned at an early age that God has a plan for us and that plan is clearly explained in the Book of Mormon. As I observe all the things in this world and the choices people make in their lives it is clear to me that God is watching over us. He created the world and the bounties of it and allows us opportunities to be or become who we want to become. Understanding that plan and following it is not always easy; but it is so worth it. The rewards for living a Christ-like life are so much greater than anything the world has to offer. I find more true happiness and inner peace when I am living by the gospel found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I struggle at times with various challenges but I have found when I stop trying to do things my way and folllow His way, things eventually work out and I grow from each experience. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Living and following Christ's example is something that has been a life long challenge for me. I believe God meant for this life to be a journey, filled with highs and lows, so that we can learn who we are and what we are capable of. Challenges in life can sometimes be overwhelming. Yet I have learned to rely on the Lord by turning to Him in prayer and reading His words. When I do this it helps me to gain strength and perspective in my challenges. It helps me to move forward with faith that there is a purpose in all things. I have learned, though I am still striving to practice it, that serving others really is the best way to be happy. When I forget myself, and seek to make others happy I find more joy in my life.
