Hi I'm Matt.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I am a mechanical engineering major. I served a two-year mission in South Korea. I enjoy reading fantasy books as well as the classics. One of my favorite books in Don Quixote. I am a fan of poetry, especially Edgar Allen Poe and Rudyard Kipling. Music is also one of my passions. I like to play piano and listen to all sorts of music. Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf are some of my favorites. I like running and lifting weights and otherwise being active and improving my physic. I am very interested in people, relationships, and seeing how we can all get along in this world, morally, politically and economically.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of members of the church, on both my mother's and father's side, though my mother's family was not active for generations til her brother started encouraging the rest of them. My parents are wonderful, and from a young age I was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even when I was young, I felt strongly that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Book of Mormon were true, that God and Jesus Christ live and that They love us. However, during my adolescence I mistakenly felt that trying to be a good church member wasn't really making me happy. I foolishly made the decision to try and be happy by my own devices, and not not by following God's plan for me. I was mostly miserable during this time, though I had some special experiences which served to remind me of what I ought to be doing. When I left for college, and found myself very much free of parental influence, I felt very powerful. However, in that same moment I knew that I would never be happy without the gospel of Jesus Christ. The feeling came from the Holy Ghost and I could not deny it. Since then I have worked steadily to follow my Heavenly Father's plan for me. I went on a mission, and while I served I had many wonderful experiences. One was a confirmation that God loves us unconditionally, and that as long as we are doing our very best to follow Him, he will bless and stand by us, and never forget us. No sacrifice is too much if it is for Him, for he sacrificed all for us. Also, I was given a powerful witness of the divine origin of the Book of Mormon. I know it is of God without a doubt.

How I live my faith

God works through imperfect means to do His work, that is why He is so amazing. I am just a regular man, but as I try to live for Christ, and to follow his teachings in every aspect of my life I am greatly blessed. I attend college, work a part-time job and spend lots of time with friends and family. I try to always put God first in my life. There are many things that I want to do that I do not do because I have a greater desire to follow God and His Son. I don't work on Sundays, and strive to make the sabbath a special day devoted to my God. I don't drink, smoke or do other drugs, or partake of substances which might be habit forming. I try to think of others, and be kind to all I meet, and remember that what I do to the least of my brothers and sisters is work I do unto Christ. I love serving in the church and being friends with the many wonderful people I meet there. I pray often, morning, night and before meals at least. I study the gospel morning and night so that every day will begin and end wonderfully. I feel very happy. Even when something gets me down, I remember that Christ atoned for my sins, and it helps me too be happy, and that all things will work together for my good if I am faithful.
