Hi I'm Jason Smith

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a small family for Mormon standards-I only have one brother and one sister. I am a father of two boys and I am married to a wonderful woman who takes good care of us all. I love to collect books, especially books about history as well as fantasy novels. My favorite time of the year is fall because of football and all of the holidays. I have graduated with my degree in chemical engineering and I work as a formulating chemist for a small company.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon. My mother tried to remain active in the Church as we were growing up, but my father was not active and so it was a struggle for her sometimes. My father taught me that you should do what you believe in and not what others expect of you. He said that if I was going to be a Mormon, I should act like one, not just on Sundays. He really taught me about integrity and being true to my belief. I truly believe that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and from that visitation and subsequent miracles, brought forth Christ's church again to the earth. Because I know that to be true, and I know that my Heavenly Father wants me to know that they are true, I can pray and study His word in the Bible and other scripture, and know for myself the truths that He has revealed to His prophets, both ancient and modern. While it is not easy and there are times when I wish that I didn't know what I know, I can always feel the reassurance from my Heavenly Father through the Holy Ghost that this is what I need to be doing to live a happy life here as well as after this life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others in my ward as well as in the community. I currently serve as a bishop in our ward, and while I find it very challenging to balance life with my small children, wife, and work, I also know that my family is blessed by our sacrifice and service, and we are very happy in our home. As a bishop, I work to help others understand the gospel and how it can bless their life. I try to teach directly and by example. I am grateful that we have the opportunity to repent and try to become better, because I have not yet been blessed with the wisdom that comes with age and must rely on the wisdom of others as well as continuing revelation from our Heavenly Father to myself as well as our church leaders to know how to best help others achieve their potential.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jason Smith
We believe that there "are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to decieve, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it" (Doctrine and Covenants 123:12). We share the gospel with others so that they can have the opportunity to know about the gospel of Christ and choose for themselves whether to reject it or learn more about it. Christ has commanded us that we share His gospel with others, and so we do. Show more Show less
