Hi I'm Tyson

I'm an optometrist and I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father of four. I completed my BS degree at Brigham Young University in Construction Management. During my schooling at BYU I met my wife Jill and we were married in 2002. We then moved to Memphis TN where I completed my Doctor of Optometry at Southern College of Optometry. I love sports, especially basketball, football and golf.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family. My parents taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ and we were very active in the church. When I was about fifteen I had the opportunity to go out and work with the LDS missionaries in our home town. As the missionaries were teaching a family they asked me to share my feelings about Joseph Smith. I knew the Joseph Smith story well and I thought it was true, probably more because my parents believed it was true, but as I started to talk to this family and share my feelings about the Joseph Smith story I remember a very strong feeling of peace that came upon me. I recognized this as a witness of the Holy Ghost testifying to me of the truthfulness of what I was sharing. After that experience I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Later, as I was preparing to leave on a mission to South America I was studing the scriptures (The Book of Mormon and Bible) and I had those same feelings of peace and happiness. It is hard to describe but it all made sense to me. The words seemed so familiar. I knew they were the words of God spoken through his ancient prophets. These experiences helped solidify my testimony of the Gospel at a young age. I continue to study and learn and I feel my soul expand and grow through the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

My family and I are very active in the Gospel today. I have the opportunity to serve the youth in our church. I help plan weekly activities for the youth and help teach Sunday school lessons each week. I'm so grateful for the opportunity the church gives me to serve. I feel that service is one of the greatest ways to become closer to Jesus Christ.
