Hi I'm Eric

I'm a computer nerd, devoted husband and father, backyard farmer, and artist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy computer programming and I have tackled some pretty complex projects, so to keep some sanity and balance I love to come home and spend time with my family. We eat, sing, read, and play together. And now I have six new grandchildren to play with as well. When my work's burdens get too heavy I come home to my "shed" where I create art. I love working with wood, metal, tile... I am creating a beautiful kitchen for our home, over the years. When I finish it will have hand crafted cabinets, cobblestone floor, and murals surrounding the sidewalk cafe setting.

Why I am a Mormon

Life is hard, and I don't avoid doing hard things. I like challenges, especially when I am successful and completing them. My work is hard, raising a family is hard, making beautiful art is hard. I always do my best, but so often my ability falls short in each of these areas. But I have been taught, that if I follow my religion honestly, that I can call on God for inspiration, new ideas, help that I have never considered. So, I have ask God for inspiration, many times, and under many circumstances. And the ideas come. These are ideas that come to me to help me through all hard things in life, after all my ideas are exhausted. I know that these ideas come from God. It comes through the "Gift of the Holy Ghost" that I received right after I was baptized. I also know that it is easy to loose this privilege, because of personal pride, selfishness, forgetting to be grateful, or because of any number of sins. But I continue to need the help, so I figure out how to repent of what I have done and I find forgiveness. Personal Prayer and good advice from our church leaders always gets me moving in the right direction.

How I live my faith

As I said before, life is hard. I have problems every day, some large, some small. And when I focus on my problems they all become huge. But if I pay more attention to other people's problems and use my time, talents, or money to help them solve their problems then my problems seem to shrink away. My church gives me "opportunities" to serve other people. My son and I are assigned 5 other families in the church to watch over, to be their friend. I want to be a friend to everyone in my local congregation, but there are so many. So this "assignment" helps me to focus my strength on a few, knowing that others will likewise be served by others. I also have the assignment to make sure that our meeting house is kept in good repair. I keep a list of things in the building that get broken and it is my responsibility to arrange to have them repaired. There are times when everything seems to break all at once and it is overwhelming. But it is another opportunity to serve God and my community and it makes my personal burdens a bit easier to carry.
