Hi I'm Erin!

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm an American Sign Language Interpreter, a baker, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Northern California. I went to college in both Illinois and Maine and graduated with two degrees in education. I taught high school Chemistry and Math to deaf students for eight years. I've been interpreting for the past four years, focusing on medical interpreting. I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was in college in Illinois at the age of 23. I have recently lost 78 pounds and I'm training to climb Half Dome in the spring! My next quest is conquer rock climbing lessons!!! My life is filled with wonderful friends, adventures and laughter!!!

Why I am a Mormon

I was not raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I'm what's known as a convert. When I was 22 I went all the way to Illinois to study Deaf Education and there met three wonderful women who became dear, dear friends. All three of them just happened to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They all shared their love of the Lord with me and through their example I began to want to know more about their religion. I eventually met with the missionaries and they challenged me to pray and fast for myself so that I could know if the gospel that they were teaching was true. It was the first time I had prayed for an specific answer to a question. I received an undeniable answer to my prayer and knew that I needed to join this church. I immediately stopped drinking coffee, I was an 8 cup a day coffee drinker...so this wasn't easy, and then asked the missionaries what else I needed to do. I was baptized very soon after that and have never looked back. My life has been changed for the better! I am happier, have a clear direction in my life, understand my eternal value and know that I am loved by my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by daily striving to have a Christ centered life. I find that openly letting the people around me know what I believe and why makes my relationships deeper and friendships stronger. It is great to be the person that "surprises" a new friend by letting them know that I am a Mormon. Most people think that Mormons are boring or stodgy and I seem to break that mold :) I love sharing my joy for life with others! I am currently serving as the music leader with the children at church and I love sharing the music of the gospel with them. Each new song is an exciting discovery for them and I love teaching the gospel through the beautiful poetry found in the children's music! I know that the children learn of the love that their Heavenly Father has for them through each song that we sing. I'm also currently serving as a Seminary Teacher, which means I'm up every weekday morning at 4am to shower, shampoo & shine so that I can teach the high school students in my stake at 6am all about the Old Testament. I feel especially blessed to serve so many of the youth in the church. Their honesty, excitement and love have made my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ stronger and more evident to those around me!
