Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a landscape architect in love with creating places. I'm a husband and proud father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to design environments. I get to work with a lot of public spaces. It is such a blessing to experience an existing space, and then slowly, and methodically, design the changes to the site to meet the desired use. Enhancing and modifying the natural environment to improve the human experience is exhilarating. I love to be active with my family. We often spend time together running, bicycling or having other athletic adventures. My wife and I decided that we would try to spend time in our marriage doing things we both love to do instead of doing things separately - what a blessing that has turned out to be.

Why I am a Mormon

In short - people. I've heard many explanations of how a church infused with power and revelation creates an upright and respectable religion. But for me, watching the conviction of others; their faith in action, and what kind of people they have become, inspires me. The mortal experience helps us view principles in action - what works in the true laboratory of life. So to see the fruit of teachings that I hold dear, translate into amazing people that are constantly growing and imbued with confidence is extremely encouraging. For me, I am a Mormon because of the fruit that I have tasted in my own life. Life is very difficult at times, but when the principles that I have sought to place my trust in, and create a foundation on, carry me through the sorrows and trials of life, the fruit is evident. No one can explain to me the joy that comes from putting my faith in true principles. However, experiencing the truth in my life - partaking of the fruit, trying it for myself - has a more powerful influence on me than any other. I believe there are many people that have felt of God’s love and Christ atoning power in their life – that is the heart of the gospel. I am a Mormon because I see God’s love and feel Christ atoning power most clearly through the framework of an organization set up by God himself. In other words, I not only have a testimony of God’s love, I also have a testimony of the organization through which I have received his love. Just as no one could convince me against my love for God, no one could convince me against my belief in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints either.

How I live my faith

As a child I loved to rearrange my bed, dresser, book case, and toy chest within my bedroom. I would try every possible option with varying results. Each arrangement would change the “feel” of the room. As a child, I believe that I discovered some of the effect that the living environment around us has. As a designer, I love to harness this power, and have a part in creating that “feeling” in places people frequent. An even more powerful tool is the power to influence how others feel around us. There are certain people that have developed the capacity to always lift others up when in their presence. I am striving to do the same in my life. I grew up working at a produce farm and working with my father mowing lawns. I think I gained an appreciation for hard work through those experiences. Hard work, with a strong dose of selflessness, has always been my mantra. After receiving so much and being blessed so greatly, I owe it to the Lord to always give life my best effort.
