Hi I'm Rodney

I'm a high school German teacher.

About Me

Since the ninth grade, I've been facinated with German. All four years in high school I learned German and with the help of a rich uncle (Uncle Sam) I was sent to Germany with the US army. It was in Germany that I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After leaving the army, I was able to serve a two year mission to Germany and it was there that I met my wife. We were married in Germany and then I was able to study German and complete a master's degree in German. My passion for Germany continues and I am able to share it with others. I am a high school German teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

It was while I was in Germany in the army that I came into contact with the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I had been raised a Methodist and had been taught about Jesus Christ and prayer. My mother had done a very good job teaching me basic Christian values, such as honesty and charity, and I always remembered to pray whenever I was in a real jam. One day I began a conversation with another soldier I knew. I asked him why I hadn't seen him at any of the partys recently. He told me that he had become a Mormon. He had had a spiritual experience while he was reading the Book of Mormon and he asked me if I might be interested in reading the Book of Mormon too. I took a copy of the Book of Mormon, but it didn't seem very interesting. Later he asked me if I would like to meet with a couple of missionaries from the church. For some reason I said yes and we set up an appointment. When they came, they taught we about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth and ask me if I believed that God could come to the earth and appear to Joseph Smith. They also taught me the importance of prayer and asked if I would pray about their message. I did not know if Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ could or did visit Joseph Smith, but I did believe God could answer prayers. My mother had taught me to keep my word and I gave them my word that I would pray about their message. The night before our second appontment, I knelt by my bed and asked Heavenly Father if the message the missionaries had presented to me was true. What happened next was life changing. I felt the love of God enter into me. It filled my soul and I knew that God had listened to my prayer, that he loved me and that he was telling me that the message from the missionaries was true. That was the first of many wonderful experiences. The first experience with the Spirit fo the Lord helped me have the faith to be baptized. My numerous subsequent experiences have confirmed it.

How I live my faith

Professionally, I serve high school age students as a teacher and mentor. Through my church, I have had many different positions. For a number of years I served as the scout master of our Boy Scout troop. That gave me a chance to use my training with the youth and my military training at the same time. We had a lot of fun and won a lot of scout honors. Currently, I assist our full-time missionaries teaching about the church.
