Hi I'm James

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in 1952 and baptised in 1961, was educated at the Church college of New Zealand (1966 -1970). For most of my working life I worked in insurance and more specifically marine insurance working for a specialist company holding senior positions including State Underwriting Manager, State Manager and National Project Manager before retiring in 2008. Over the years I've been active in sports including amature wrestling (Olympic freestyle), rugby union and still follow most sports. While in my younger days I enjoyed motor cycle riding I now enjoy more leisurely activities including scuba diving, boating, fishing and travel. I met my wife in 1994 and married in 1995. My wife had three children who all have partners and we now have six wonderful grand children. Although baptised in 1961, In was in 1999 that I became committed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have since served as a Counselor in the Elders Quorum, Bishops Counselor, Bishop and a High Counselor.

Why I am a Mormon

I've always had a belief that there is a God but it was not until I was in my forties that I really decided that I needed to find out for sure if God was real or as many will tell you, God is only as real as Santa and that the so called spiritual experience are simply emotional feelings and that a belief in God is nothing more than self delusion. I started to live the teachings of the church and at critical times, as I served others, I was inpisired in the advice I was giving and that the feelings and promptings were far more than emotion and could only be explained as divine. I've come to know that God is real and that he loves each one of us. He wants to bless us and as we try to keep his commandments, he does. To me the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints answers all the important questions such as who am I? Why am I here and where am I going?

How I live my faith

I've held positions where I have been personally responsible in ministering to people in all walks of life, and experienced the tragic results where someone losses all hope, but also the great joy that is available to each one of us through doing what is right. Sometimes it may be easy to please a friend or friends but ultimately, we must be true to ourselves and do what we know is right. I try to do just that, but always remembering that I have a Heavenly Father who will guide and direct me and all I have to do is ask! Currently my role is more administrative in assisting single members and advising a Bishop and other ward leaders in administering and in their ministering of a ward.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

James
No! Joseph Smith was a phophet just as Mosses was. We worship God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
