Hi I'm Courtenay

I'm a happily-married, mother of a beautiful little girl! I have a curious, questioning, and philosophical mind, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I lived the first half of my life in Aptos California, and the second half in Provo/Springville Utah. I have a bachelor's in psychology from BYU--which is also where I met my husband. We've been married for 4 yrs and have a beautiful little girl. I'm the oldest child in my family, and both of my parents are on their 3rd marriages--not an easy way to grow up, but nothing I couldn't handle. I have a deep love of music--I think of it as "my therapy". I took private voice lessons all through high school, and was in the women's chamber choir. I haven't done as much with music since college though...which I regret. I loved studying psychology and look forward to getting my master's and doctorate.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel that I ought to admit that there are things about the church that I still don't fully understand. There are plenty of things that I'm still trying to learn, understand, and work on. And I, by no means, profess to be any kind of perfect expert. But I can tell you that in my darkest, loneliest hours I have felt the love of my Heavenly Father. When I've made mistakes--and I've made my fair share--I have felt the forgiveness that comes through the Atonement of my Brother and Savior, Jesus Christ. When I have been at a cross-roads and faced important decisions I have felt the guidance of the Holy Ghost and, when followed, it has taken me where I needed to be. Have you ever just known something? If someone asked you how you knew it, you wouldn't have any idea how to explain it to them...other than saying you just know. That's how this is for me. At the very least, my membership in this church pushes me to be the very best version of myself. At the very most, it gives me understanding, purpose and direction.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by example and by trying to follow the example of Jesus Christ. He had so much love and compassion for those around him. I'm learning that example is so important because its really easy to say that you believe in something, or to say that you support something...but actually doing it is a whole new ball game. I have been able to serve in a few different capacities in this church--and all of them have been a wonderful experiences in their own ways. But my favorite--BY FAR--has been leading the music/teaching songs to the children!!!
