Hi I'm Sam (Samantha)

Lived most of my life in California, moved to Colorado about 10 years ago. I am a Mormon

About Me

I am a mother of 3 grown children. I became a widow at a very young age and therefore, raised my kids on my own. I work full time as a secretary. I have always worked full time, since i am the only income. Currently my children are between the ages of 22 and 26. I don't have a lot of hobbies. Since my kids have taken most if not all of my free time :) . I love to cook and try new recipes. I enjoy reading and have been in a book club for the last 10 years. I love entertaining and spending time with friends and family. and since I have been single for so long, i really don't have "dinner parties", just big barbecues with lots of music, games and dancing! So the get togethers include my friends (who are mostly married and their families). I like to watch documentaries and home improvement shows (love "Holmes on Homes!") I would love to travel, but have not really had the resources for that --- though I did get a free air ticket to Paris and Rome a couple of years ago, I stayed in a hostile and ate almonds and free cheese my whole trip, but it was amazing!

Why I am a Mormon

I joined this church when my children were young and so was I. I joined the church because the values and love and importance of family really struck a cord with me. I believe that my most important job, role and responsibility was being a mother and raising children that would be happy, educated, good parents and contributers to the community. My fear was one day, being old and alone and looking at my unhappy adult children, thinking how much i let them down. Since i was single, i felt i need more than my single voice expressing my values to my children (in order to keep them on the strait and narrow :)). THose same values are why i joined the church and thru the years my testimony for the truthfullness of the Gospel has grown becuase of the struggles of a single mother... thru divore and the untimely death of my second husband, and the daily struggles of raising children on my own. The Lord has shown his love for me for always pulling me thru. I turn to my Savior for understanding and strength and it is given to me. Life is not easy, but my life would have been so much more stressful and just HARDER without my faith (that thru each hardship has grown more and more) to pull me thru. As a single mother dealing with lifes challenges... sure, there are lots of people there to help, should you need it, but in the end it is all up to you and they are not (can not) be there every day and every minute.... But, the Savior can be with you. I am so thanful for my membership in this church, mosty because i feel the Gospel saved my family. Who knows if i could have been strong enough to guide my children consistently thru the years without the Gospel and church memebers that "got my back". To me, it is a scary thought to think of my life without my church.

How I live my faith

There are many opporunites in the church to show your faith. I feel i live it everyday by the way i interact with my co workers and people around me. I have taught our primary kids (ages 7 and 11), i have taugh Sunday School to teenagers (ages 14-18) and for the last 3 years i have been in the leadership for the Young Women program (ages 14-18). I love being around the kids, they have so many things to deal with in this fast paced, electronic and crazy world, and they are still such a great example of strength and i am always amazed with how they stand up for what they believe in and live the values their parents and their youth leaders try to impress upon them.
