Hi I'm Crystal Young

I'm a wyoming ranch girl, a wife, a mother of ten and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm Crystal. I am the mother of ten delightful children, married to Jeff. I've heard the rumor that "she had never seen her husband before she decided to marry him- she knew he was the one just because she prayed." I smile because it's true. After 23 years of marriage, I'm still happy to report he's still the one. The years haven't always been easy - we homeschool, Jeff has had demanding church assignments in addition for working for Union Pacific Railroad which has required a lot of travel. I'm with the children 24/7 and I love it. Sometimes people look at me crazy and sometimes I feel a little that way but the supreme satisfaction I get seeing my children learn and grow makes it worth doing 25 batches of laundry a week. I think I am an incurable experimentor. I love to cook from scratch. I started blogging on the value of family mealtimes in 2010. I loved finding new reasons each day to cook dinner. Surprizing to me, was the number of times my children threw their arms around me and said, "Oh I love you for cooking dinner for us." Family time is worth everything. Extending that family time to Friends is the reason for living.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up under the Wyoming Skys surrounded by desolate desert made God real to me. No one is there but Him. My family worked together, played together, and went to church together. We read scriptures and studied great men and women together. As a child our religion was part of our lifestyle. As an adult, religion is a part of my lifestyle because of the peace and hope I find each day as I live gospel principles. I love the tesimony that God is real in the Old Testament. I love the Book of Mormon for the second witness it offers theat Jesus is the Savior. Beyond doubt God lives and loves us. The huge responsibility of being a mother and a wife and a friend to those in need is overwhelming at times. God has always been there to help us through. The Mormon doctrine makes sense. I find happiness and contentment. That is why I stay active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

As a "Mormon" I am a friend. What I want to do with my life most is to help others in my family, in my church or community find happiness. We have friends who live in downtown Omaha in poorer neighborhoods where drug dealing is rampant. As often as we can get schedules together we pick up these three children and bring them out for an afternoon to jump on our trampoline, make cookies, play Wii or pull a tomato from our garden. The pure glee in their eyes makes my living religion real. Every week I plan a Family Home Evening for our family that includes a short lesson, a song, prayers, and of course a treat. This time together is wonderful even with the two year old climbing all over me and the little ones running in and out of the room. Just the day to day care of children is living my religion. No one would do these things if they didn't believe that Jesus Christ lives. Each life is worth my effort because it was worth His. I try to follow him because I'm a Mormon.
