Hi I'm Gerry Benner

I grew up in Colorado. I served in the Navy during Vietnam, and pondered a lot about life while at sea. Now, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy swimming, hiking, and geocaching -- especially with my grandchildren. I enjoy teaching my grandchildren math or sitting with them at the computer -- killing zombies.

Why I am a Mormon

I met my wife's family and saw the love and support, and fun they had as a family. There were lots of laughs showing old family photos, or just playing cards. When investigating the church, I was immediately welcomed, and met tons of very caring members that were true examples of Christ-like people. There are many people I honor in life. Jesus Christ is definately #1. I have also been influenced by my parents, my friends, my classes, and various television shows while growing up. These events have influenced my life, and today's events that I choose to let influence me continue to improve who I am. The side effect is the positive influence on my family and my children's families. So, in short, why am I a Mormon? I suppose I have let all of these influences come into my life (albeit with some issues or doubts); and I have chosen what teachings to trust. I also analyze the message and the meaning (through the Holy Ghost) to ensure its truthfulness, and to figure out how I can apply it to my life. My faith is based on the fact that these teachings make for a better world, and take me closer to Christ—a being who I choose to follow, strive to be like, and someday hope to see in the hereafter.

How I live my faith

I follow the teachings of Christ. Currently I serve as a Branch Clerk for a Young Single Adult group. I enjoy seeing our young adults develop Christ-like habits, find happiness, and get on with their life.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Gerry Benner
No, I do not worship Joseph Smith or any of our church leaders; however, I do honor them as individuals who provide teachings that come from Christ. Again, it is my choice what I take away and let influence me. Again, I have the Holy Ghost to help me, and to guide and direct me on how I choose to embellish the teachings. And, if Christ is involved, which is often the case, I interpret the message and apply it to my life to the best of my ability. Show more Show less
