Hi I'm Eileen

I was born and raised in The Bronx, New York, in a Jewish family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My passions include my family of 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 2 greats. I keep my kitchen busy turning out breads, muffins, desserts. Planting veggies and flowers enrich me. Reading the classics is an ongoing interest, and I keep my computer busy with a variety of writing.

Why I am a Mormon

Although my husband and I had no problem with our different religious backgrounds (he was a lukewarm Protestant, and I was a non attending Jewish girl), I felt the need for us to be united in our religious life as soon as our first child was born. After 3 years of looking at a variety of religions, including Conservative and Reform Judaism, I recognized the truth of what I had been studying about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I knew God would not cease revealing His truth to man through prophets. I appreciated how fair it was that my past generations of non Christian ancestors would have an opportunity to learn the truth in the spirit world. In the Old Testament, I recognized prophecies about Jesus Christ . Mormon friends and neighbors lived lives I wanted to emulate. At last, I came to know that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. It's been over 50 years since the night my husband and I were baptized. I am so grateful for the life the Lord has led me to, a life filled with opportunities to learn and grow and serve. If I had a chance to live life over, I would only change it by joining the Church sooner!

How I live my faith

One of the choicest opportunities for happiness comes through monthly visits to 2 or 3 women, along with another woman as my companion. We want to be sure that the ones we visit are not in need, physically, emotionally or spiritually. We may be strangers when we begin to visit, but before many months have passed we have established a warm and caring relationship. Even after my 'assignment' has changed so that I visit different women, I maintain a sincere friendship with my past companions and those whom I used to visit, and this continues for many years. I've been fortunate enough to use my writing skills to produce plays and skits for youth and adults, to foster faith and good will. My husband and I have been missionaries in Pennsylvania, Germany and Colorado, and have shared the joy of the gospel with many. We are deeply involved in local service opportunities, including a city-wide yard cleanup for the elderly who are unable to do it themselves. We are also part of a small neighborhood group, dedicated to being mutually prepared for whatever emergency comes.
