Hi I'm Dee!

I grew up in Florida where I attended a parochial school for 12 years. I am a para-librarian with K-3 grade & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 4 children. I was married at a young age but the marriage didn't last. In my late 20's I discovered my best friend, married him & we've been married for 30 years. We have 2 beautiful children. Our oldest is in college and we have one on a mission. I have worked in the airline industry, the sales division of a food manuafacturer, in real estate and accounting departments. My current position is a dream job in an elementary school as a librarian in the media center. I work daily with kindergarten through third graders and it is a wonderful environment. Working in a school setting gives one the feeling of making a difference on a daily basis! I love to do family history and have over 5,000 names in our family data base. Though I enjoy gardening, what I truly love to do is design residential landscaping. We camp as a family and, having lived out west, really like to camp in the mountains! Home decorating comes easy to me, & if there really is a perfect job in the world, I would think it's designing & decorating other people's homes using their money! I have written a book called "Family Traditions" Cookbook & it is a collection of favorite family recipes, traditions and a scrapbook of pictures, stories, and genealogy. It was published online and is the legacy I hoped I'd be able to leave to my children. I love being with my family and have great kids! I'm an easy going, cheerful, always busy, rarely moody kind of person.

Why I am a Mormon

I came from a Catholic background & my husband came from a Baptist background. He wasn't a practicing Baptist, but I was a very active Catholic. He attended church with me, but I knew he wasn't interested in my faith. After 8 years of marriage & some rocky financial moves we found ourselves humbled & in trouble. We had recently lost a job & were in a financial crisis. Then 2 missionaries came to our door. We chose to listen. What they said made sense- so much so, I felt I already knew what they were trying to teach me! We agreed to read the Book of Mormon but chose to reach our decisions about this church alone (so as not to sway each other). We knew this was too big a decision to pressure each other. After reading we both came to know that this was the Lord's church, & it had been restored to the earth! What was so important about my personal decision is that I chose to pray about this, and I received an answer directly to my heart! No amount of contention from my friends and family could remove what I had felt and knew to be true! The Church is not forced on you. It is laid out line upon line, and after studying it out and pondering it, the Prophet Moroni says to each of us: "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ASK GOD, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a SINCERE HEART, with REAL INTENT, he will MANIFEST the truth of it unto you BY THE power of the HOLY GHOST." Moroni 10:4-5 To me, this is so powerful. Remember the scripture that all of Christianity is familiar with? Mathew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: "And BY the POWER of the HOLY GHOST ye may KNOW the TRUTH of ALL THINGS." I have done this. I know the Lord will answer your prayers, because he answered mine. My husband and I joined the church June 1990 and our lives have been blessed beyond measure.

How I live my faith

I am currently active in my community. I am on the Park & Tree Board for the City of Red Oak & I'm on the Friends of the Red Oak Trails committee. I have many non-member friends in this community & they know who I am, what I stand for, & I feel have a level of respect for our family values. In my ward I have been a leader of the women's organization, and I was in the program designed for girls ages 12-18. I was a Seminary Teacher for 10 years with an early morning religion class during the school calendar. My students were Freshmen-Seniors and met at 6am daily for 1 hour. I currently am in the Primary Department, which are children 18 months to 11 years of age. Included in that is a cub scout program for boys 8-11, and activities night for girls 8-11. We have had many opportunities to serve our community through the different organizations of the church. We adopt a portion of the highway each year to keep clean, help people in the community with roofing, moving, clothing drives, blanket needs etc. As parents, we have taken each teaching moment to reach out and help someone else, and our children have learned well through the years. My daughter and son were one of very few LDS students in high school, yet they were valiant and respected. I visit women in our community to help them with their needs, lend them a shoulder or merely listen to their concerns. I take a message with me from our monthly Ensign magazine which is current information to help us along our path in life. These monthly visits are called visiting teaching, & rich friendships often develop because of our desire to be charitable with one another. I try to live my faith on a daily basis... this is not a "Sunday only" faith. Accepting the atonement of Christ, turning over my life and making a "change of heart" happen within me... well, that's how I choose to live my faith. And with each step of faith and obedience, I feel I am coming closer to my Savior!

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Dee!
I wondered this very thing when I first talked to the missionaries 21 years ago! I was reading the Book of Mormon. Missionaries and friends helped with my questions. Then, I came to a scripture that changed my life forever. Alma 32:27-28: ... if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than a desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words. Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me." When I read these verses, my heart filled with joy & peace. I said a prayer & asked my Heavenly Father if the church was true & I received a confirmation that it was through the Spirit of the Lord. How can you know? Through scripture study, prayer, desire & obedience to the commandments! Show more Show less
