Hi I'm Rick

I'm a Mormon and I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I lived all over the US before moving to the northwest.

About Me

I am a husband of 28 years and a father of 4 beautiful children, ages 28 to 14. I work for a large telecommunications company where I am a project manger.  Before I discovered project management, I was an officer in the US Army. We have had wonderful opportunities to live all over the United States: Utah, Texas, Kentucky, even Europe. I am also a proud graduate of BYU and served a mission for the Church in Michigan.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church because of my testimony that it is true. One day when I was 15 or 16 my father told me that I couldn't believe any more just because my parents did. He instructed me to read the Book of Mormon for myself and to pray for the witness of the Holy Ghost to tell it was true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I remember reading the book in its entirety. When I came to the these last words in Moroni 10:3-5, which read: 3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how amerciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and bponder it in your chearts. 4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would aask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not btrue; and if ye shall ask with a csincere heart, with dreal intent, having efaith in Christ, he will fmanifest the gtruth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may aknow the btruth of all things. I resolved to test them and so went to a room in our home, really a trailer. I knelt down and prayed and felt the most powerful witness, as though a fire had descended on me, that this book was true and that Joseph Smith was inspired of God. That one experience has sustained my entire life, though I have received several subsequent manifestations. It is the truth Church of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to serve in many callings in our Church, from teaching Sunday School to working with addicts to being a clerk. I am currently the bishop, or leader, of a ward of about 300 members in Arlington, Washington. I love serving our people and have plenty of opportunities to visit the sick, the elderly, to counsel the distraught and those with burdens. We have a small youth group that meets weekly and I feel so privileged to work with them and watch them grow to be adults. The Gospel of Jesus Christ really is present in everything I do and I have so much to be grateful for. I don't know where I would be without it, but I wouldn't be nearly the man I have grown into. One of the blessings of the Gospel to our family has been to live near a temple and be able to attend consistently. It is such a special and sacred place. No one who enters there can leave without being affected. Especially not me. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend there.
