Hi I'm Maria

I want to be a person people trust & find comfort in, known for true friendship. I’m a lover of life, a student, an outdoors gal.

About Me

I grew up in Arizona and lived in South Carolina for a while, now I'm back home in Arizona. I'm the oldest of 3 sisters and 1 brother that I am crazy about. I’m still in school and want to pursue my career in Dental Hygiene. I love to sing, hike and spend time with my family in the kitchen. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2009 when I was 18 and my life will never be the same because of it. My life is still full of ups and downs, but I'm grateful for those opportunities that I can become close to my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in high school I met two great guys who, by their example drew me to their religion. They seemed to be different from all of the other students I went to school with. Their energy and the way they carried themselves differentiated themselves from others, and made an affect on me immediately. We became friends shortly after and I started to ask questions. They were very polite and respectful that I was raised Catholic. After a while they invited me to church and I accepted. I was very curious and a bit hesitant about the whole thing but...I pressed forward. Everything was different from what I was accustomed to but, I LOVED the feeling I had the whole time I was there, it was the same feeling I first had when I noticed these boys in class. They taught me that that feeling was the Holy Spirit and told me that I can always have it with me. That's exactly what I wanted; I wanted that feeling as often as I could get it. Throughout the span of 2 months I continued to learn more about the Mormon faith and on March 7th of 2009 I was baptized. I'm Mormon because I couldn't let go of that feeling so easily, I knew that I only got it when I was being taught about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith, when I got baptized or even just hanging out with my two amazing friends. I feel blessed to have that spirit with me always. That feeling of the spirit was the beginning of what was to come; everything else just fell into place.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following the wonderful example of my two friends who introduced me to the gospel. I live my faith through serving my mom, or helping my sisters with their homework, giving a friend a call and telling them that I was thinking about them, or just listening. My faith requires communication with my Heavenly father through prayer, as I know that keeping a relationship with him is the key to my salvation. Reading my scriptures is something that has become a big part of how I live my faith. Teaching and being able to help the women in the church understand the principles of the gospel is a reward in itself and quite often I'm the one who is learning the most. Most importantly, I live my faith by remembering my Savior and the sacrifice he made for me. I know that I wouldn't be where I am without him.
