Hi I'm Vicki

I grew up in sunny Phoenix, AZ. I love my family. I am a mother of four boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a bachelors degree and have spent time outside of the US teaching English. I have four sons, and I love spending time with my husband and boys. Our family likes to play sports, boardgames and watch movies together. I love to read, especially about history (although I do like reading youth fiction like Harry Potter). I have been thinking about going back to school and getting a Master's degree, now that all my kids are in school. I enjoy volunteering at the school when I can. I also love getting together with friends and meeting new people.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Eventhough my parents are member and their parents are members, I have had to find out for myself it is true. I know that God lives and is our Heavenly Father. He loves us and sent His son, Jesus Christ to teach us the way we need to live, and then to pay for our sins. Because of Christ, each of us will live again after we die. Because of Christ, we can repent and be forgiven for our mistakes. Because of Christ, we can be with our loves one's after this life. I know that God is a different being from Jesus Christ, and that the Holy Ghost is spirit that our Father in Heaven sends to bear whitness of truth, to teach, to comfort, to bring peace, joy and love. I know that prophets are a central part of God's plan. A phophet is called of God to teach what it is that God would have us know and do. I know we have prophets today, just like in the days of Noah, Daniel, and Isaiah. I love listening to General Conference, which is held twice a year in April and October. During the different two hour sessions of General Conference, we have the opportunity to hear messages prepared by living prophets. I know they are messages from God, because I can feel the confirmation of the Holy Ghost as they speak. We can watch these Conferences on television, and then re-read the messages on line or in a monthly magazine. I am grateful for the scriptures. I know the Bible and the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. I feel closer to God when I am reading my scriptures. I love to read with my family, too. I think the most significant thing to me about why I'm a Mormon is the fact that I can find out for myself if what I am studying or being taught is true. As a Mormon, I am taught to read, ponder and then pray for myself to find answers. I have used this pattern my whole life in making decisions and seeking answers to life's questions.

How I live my faith

One of the ways I try and live my faith is by serving others. There are so many opportunities to help within the church and community. In the past, I have organized activities for the youth in our area, including attending a week long summer camp for girl's ages 12-18. I have also helped with the Wolf cub scouts, which are boys in our area that are 8 year's old. Another way I live my faith is by teaching others. I have taught several classes on Sunday's including, a women's class, ages 18 and older; a primary age class for 5 year olds; and an adult sunday class on the New Testament and other books of scripture. My husband and I have also tried to help others in our neighborhood and community. With our children, we have cleaned up the yard of someone who wasn't able, visited various individuals in the hospital, and taken meals into families with new babies. Serving and helping others helps me to get outside myself and be less selfish. In a world that teaches us we only need to worry about ourselves, I know that I am truly happy when I take time for others.
