Hi I'm Daisy

I'm a Mormon.I was born in Kansas and moved to Denver during the Dust bowl in '37. And I was married for 60 years.

About Me

I like to sew. I enjoy square dancing. I am a Mother of 5, a Grandmother and a GreatGrandmother. I love making friends and I like to travel. Although I had no training, I loved to sing in the Choir. I was born in Kansas, on a farm. We moved to Denver, Co. when I was 13 yrs old because of the dust bowl. In Denver, one day my girlfriend and I heard square dance music. I talked her into going upstairs with me to see the dance. The 1st person that I met was Fannie, and we became friends for years. I learned that night that they were planning a box social and I decided to join in. At box socials, they auction off a box with a lunch or dinner in it. You eat with the person who buys your box. There was a young man there about 12 yrs old. He would put his hand up in the air and wave it around and say, "just a minute!". Then he would go to his older brother and get some more money and bid more. He did this three or more times. I had a fun evening but never got back to the place again. I got sick and needed to have my appendix out. Later, I met those brothers again. I worked in a Dairy. The brothers came in with their church group to get ice cream. My friend and I had changed aprons and name tags. My name tag said Daisy. One of the brothers, Albert, invited me to go to the next church activity. In fact, Albert was a Stake missionary .That was how I was introduced to the church. Although my Name is Elda Mae, I've been called Daisy all my life because of that apron trick.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of the miracles I've experienced in my life. I believe our Heavenly Father directed me to the square dance and box social that originally introduced me to the church. But before I could learn anything about the church I got sick with appendicitis. It took me over a year to recover from the illness. I'd basically forgotten about the church. Then I got a job at a dairy and low and behold the same boys I saw at the box social came walking in and I was introduced to the church again. I joined and eventually married one of those brothers. I truly believe that God's hand helped me find that job and directed those boys to come into that dairy for ice cream. I also believe I was meant to marry my dear Albert. We were married for 60 years until he passed away.

How I live my faith

Once I joined the church, I never turned back. I attend church as often as I can. I have served the church in the primary, including as a Primay President. But my greatest joy has been serving as a visiting teacher. I love to visit other sisters in the church. I see their struggles and how the lord helps with their problems. I also love doing family research or geneology. I even took some trips to Europe with my husband (before computers) to find out additional family information.
