Hi I'm Lynden

I was raised in California by a single Mom. I currently live in NW Iowa. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of 6 children. I work as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager for a hydraulics manufacturing company. I love to read, play the bagpipes, and watch Sci-Fi on TV. I also speak Mandarin Chinese (served my mission in Taiwan) and a few other languages (at a more rudimentary level). When I was a lot younger, I took Ju-Jitsu and eventually became a 3rd degree black belt in it. It opened the door for me to teach Judo for a semester at BYU as a credited P.E. course which was really cool.

Why I am a Mormon

My first encounter with the Church came when I was around 7 years old when Home Teachers from the church found my Mom and me. My mother was an inactive member of the church and my father (who died 6 weeks before I was born) was a member of another faith. Eventually I was baptized and members of my Ward took it upon themselves to make sure I was able to go to church every week. Around 12 years old, I had an experience at the L.A. Temple on a baptism trip that really began my journey of knowing that the Church was true. Around 16, a friend of mine (Peter) went up with me to SLC to visit my grandparents. He loved Temple Square and kept urging me to take him almost every day. It was at one of those visits that I gained a personal witness for myself that Joseph Smith really did see God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ as he claimed. I was stunned and overwhelmed in the manner that that witness came, but knew that it came from outside of myself and was true. While reading the Book of Mormon for the first time I also gained a gentle, yet penetrating witness that it was true and from the Lord. Experiences such as these as well as those I had while serving a Mission at 19, drop by drop continued to help me know that the restored Gospel and Church were really from the Lord. Every significant blessing and opportunity that I have had has been directly connected to remaining true and faithful to the little witnesses I had been given combined with doing the best I could in keeping the principles and practices taught within the fullness of the Gospel. As my faith in Christ and His Gospel grew, so did my challenges, but I have learned that as I have persevered with His help and trusted beyond myself, the gifts and blessing waiting for me have far surpassed my greatest expectations. I really know for me that the Gospel is true because the Lord himself in unmistakable ways and by direct communication through prayer has testified to me time and time again that it is so.

How I live my faith

I study the scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price) on a regular basis. I find such joy through the revelations they contain and try to use the lessons learned to help strengthen my family as well as those I have responsibility for. I have been enriched and strengthened each time I seriously pursue a study of these records and have found such a level of harmony and interconnectedness between them all that continues to enable and inspire me. Their relevance and timeliness in the world around us cannot be overstated!!! I have had the privilege of teaching both youth and adults in Sunday School, college students as an Institute of Religion Instructor, and a counselor in a Bishopric. Every calling that has ever come (both large and small) has been just as much for me as it has been for those I was called to serve. It has been awesome to watch people's lives change for the better as a love for the Lord and His Gospel begins to come alive in a person's life. I do my best to live the principles I have come to know and hope that in doing so I can better serve the Lord and assist in helping others come to know the Plan of Happiness that he has put in motion for us all. Again I really know for me through study, prayer, and experience that God the Father lives, that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's Church and Kingdom restored anew in its fullness to the earth. In addition to helping me know who I truly am and how to return back into His Presence, the Lord through the restoration has taught us how we can bring our families with us. Given that the essence of Happiness is Permanence, I am so grateful that the "ties that bind" husband to wife and parents to children may continue throughout the Eternities if done the Lord's way. I try to live my life in a manner that expresses my gratitude for the many gracious gifts that God has given to me.
