Hi I'm Mike

I am a dad, a husband, a statistician, and I teach classes at the community college. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to spend time with my family - we don't even have to be doing anything and I still enjoy it. When we do things, we like to visit museums, natural wonders, or other interesting places. I love to read, and I like doing projects around the house. However, they don't get done very quickly and I sometimes have several going at the same time...it drives my family nuts. I teach college math as a part time job and I love doing it. If I could figure out how to survive on the pay, I would do it full time.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the church, so I don't have a fantastic conversion story. Before I can remember I have always been comforted by having a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have continued with the faith because I like the promises of being able to return to live with my Heavenly Father and my family if I will be obedient and humble. I also firmly believe that I am where the Lord wants me to be - I am trying to become a better person every day - a better husband, better father, better neighbor, and most importantly a better anonymous person that you might run into at the grocery store. As I grow older, I have decided that the most important thing I can do to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to learn to love others and serve them. This is completely in line with my beliefs. In fact, it is what the church has been trying to teach me all these years. As I show kindness, the Holy Spirit confirms to me in my heart and mind that I am doing that which I am supposed to do, and encourages me to keep going. I am also learning to accept service from others when I am struggling. This has allowed me to get to know the hearts of some fantastic friends and neighbors.

How I live my faith

I have served my church in many capacities. Some of the things I have really enjoyed include working with the youth, and working with the young children. I like to teach gospel principles and especially enjoy the look on their faces when something resonates with them. I have been in leadership positions, and also in positions where I supported the leaders and have found pleasure in both capacities. I just like being involved. More important than this, however, is the way I live my faith personally. I have a strong conviction that our Father in Heaven has great things planned for each of us. As much as I sometimes hate the struggles I have, I appreciate His wisdom and love for me, and that He allows me to be faced with challenges. I firmly believe that He allows my struggles because He wants me to grow, and that is the best way to accomplish it.
