Hi I'm John Dattilo

I'm a friend, a dreamer, an adventurer, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

Hey, I'm John, and I love adventuring! But I like sharing the adventure with a friend. Like they always say, two is better than one, right? I love randomly going to the beach or hitting the trails on my bike. I love small town restaurants. I love rock climbing. I love being barefoot. I love being outside. I love sitting at a piano and playing whatever my heart desires, and I love to listen to my friends do the same. I love running. Like....a lot. I love having random photo shoots with my best friends. I love working in the garden with my mom, and doing computer stuff with my dad. I love going on brother-sister dates with my older sister, Rachel. I love running around with all my neices and nephews. I love laughing at youtube videos with my older brother. I am the youngest in the family, and the adventurous one as well! I love the movie Tangled. I love disney in general. I love singing along to the music in the car, and even more when my friends are there to sing along! I love singing in general. Rapunzel is my favorite Disney princess. Hands down. I love having movie nights with my friends! I love walks around the block, long drives in the car, and one on one time with friends. I love reading the scriptures and hearing and reading the words of modern prophets. I love writing about anything and everything. I love sharing what I learn. I love the Gospel. I love Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father. I'm living my dreams!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ was restored, and that I am a member of it, and I know for myself. Even though I grew up in the church, I hit a wall, like many people do, where I had to know for myself. I couldn't just keep going to church, spending my day doing something just because my Mom and Dad wanted me to do it. And so I lived the gospel. Instead of just kneeling down at night and saying the same prayer, I put my heart into it. Instead of skimming a few verses in the scriptures, I actually read them and started to study them. I paid attention in church. I actually listened to the teachers and speakers. I participated. I decided that instead of living with one foot "in the world", I would actually live the gospel to know if it was true. The first time I prayed and asked to know if I had been doing the right thing was when I was in a small chapel in Brazil. But I already knew; I no longer had to ask because "If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine." (John 7:17) I'm a Mormon because I know this is where Heavenly Father wants me to be. I have seen the gospel of Jesus Christ work in my life and the lives of the people that I love the most. I have experienced a change in my desires, my hopes, my dreams, and my faith. I am a Mormon. I know it. I live it. I love it!

How I live my faith

I show my faith by my actions. Right now I am a missionary in the Florida Tallahassee mission, but this is not where I started. I was originally called to serve in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After a month of serving there, I got sick. And I never stopped getting sick. Of the 13 months I was a missionary I spent ten of those going back and forth to the hospital with various infections and sicknesses. After spending six weeks in a bed I was finally sent home. Having received a full and honorable release, I spent three months planning for the rest of my life. When I found out I was clear of all sickness, I had to decide whether or not to return to the mission field. With divine help through family and friends, I returned. I know that the gospel can change lives, because it has changed mine for the best. I have come a long way from where I was as a young high school student, and I look back in gratitude for the great miracles that have been worked in my life. I am a missionary because of my faith in Jesus Christ. I know He loves me, and I want to serve Him. I know that Heavenly Father is ever aware of me, and He has guided me to where I am right now. Through all the struggles and challenges i've faced, He has been there to comfort me, often through my loved ones. He has promised that He will not leave me comfortless, but that "[He] will come to [me]." I live my faith not only through my time as a missionary, but by continuing to travel the path that He wants me to follow.
