Hi I'm Trent

I grew up in Oklahoma. I was a missionary in São Paulo, Brazil. I graduated from BYU and I'm in medical school now. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a newlywed husband as of June 21, 2011. I love spending time with and laughing with my beautiful wife! I just graduated with my bachelors degree in April and I am now studying in medical school to become a doctor. I love studying the body because it is easily the most complex thing I have ever studied and every new thing I learn about the body shows me that God exists. I love playing Ultimate Frisbee and snowboarding. My wife and I have recently become obsessed with watching old Audrey Hepburn movies, specifically Funny Face, Sabrina, and My Fair Lady. I know it is random. She loved watching them growing up and I had never seen any of them.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have seen the Lord's hand manifest itself in the work of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The power of the priesthood is real and has given us the connection with the Lord that was missing on the earth since the death of the original apostles. One specific commandment that has, without a doubt, shown the power of God has been the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom is the code of health that the Lord revealed through the prophet, Joseph Smith in 1833. Long before science or medicine discovered the damaging, effects of alcohol, tobacco, coffee and tea along with their addictive properties, it was revealed to a living prophet. My life has been so blessed by the Word of Wisdom. While I sadly watch my classmates rely on alcohol to relieve stress and coffee to stay awake and avoid a headache from caffeine withdrawal, I find peace knowing that because the Lord made me the promise that if I abstained from these substances and focused on things that were good for me that He will bless me with strength, knowledge and health. This commandment, like all others, is not to restrict us but to set us free from the vices that Satan uses on us to bind us and restrict our freedom to choose. The Word of Wisdom has allowed me to be blessed with a clear mind that I can use to hear the Lord's voice through His Holy Spirit. As a Mormon, I have been taught how to seek for truth. I have been taught that I can go straight to the source, even our Heavenly Father, for that which I lack knowledge. I am a Mormon because I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that anyone who reads the Book of Mormon truly wanting to know if it is true scripture and asks of God will know that it is true. Some of the most peaceful and joyful moments of my life have been when I am reading the Book of Mormon. It testifies of the many ways that the Savior Jesus Christ shows His love for us and how we can grow closer to Him.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed with serving in many different ways in the church throughout my life. Ever since I was 13 years old I have been able to plan activities for youth and young adults. Just some of the activities would include pool parties, gingerbread house building and Nepali Food night. I was a missionary in São Paulo, Brazil for 2 years and was able to teach the people there about the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ every day. I loved learning Portuguese in Brazil and studied it as my minor for my undergraduate degree. I learned Spanish upon returning from Brazil so that I could share the Gospel with those that do not speak English here in the United States. I go out with the missionaries as much as I can to continue sharing the message of happiness and peace that we bring as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
