Hi I'm Jessy

I’m a paralegal who loves shopping, Yorkies, hiking and football. I teach adults to read and write English. And I’m also a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a young adult braving the world on my own quite far from my family. I love to hike, especially on the mountains, and also volunteer to teach adults to read and write English. I sketch, read law books, play videos games and watch anime and documentaries in my free time. One of my favorite past times is singing in the car with my mom as loud as we can ^_^ I hope I get the opportunity to do the same with my children.

Why I am a Mormon

Everyone must decide for themselves whether or not to believe the church is true, especially those who were raised in the church. I knew one day that I would have to make a decision on whether or not I knew this church was right. I remember waiting for a sign from God to tell me the church was true, only to be angry that I got nothing. Why did I not get an angel appearing before me like the prophets in the bible or God and Jesus to Joseph Smith as they claimed to have seen? Surely I would have believed right away if I had. For a long time I felt nothing while I prayed. I'm a logical thinker, I can't just believe something that has very little concrete facts. I can't just ask someone who already died what the answer is and as much as people like to put their faith in science even that changes throughout history... I mean there used to be solid concrete scientific evidence that the world was flat... then solid scientific evidence that the sun revolved around the Earth. Am I supposed to believe that won't change again? What could I trust so that I knew why I was here that would not change? Who could I trust? Over time I was able to see how the pieces fit together. There is no way anyone could ever know the answers without help from someone who already knows. There is only one being who could know. That would be God. And he gave us the Holy Ghost so that there could be a way to know. It is the only way to know. It NEVER changes with time and is already here for me to answer my questions and comfort me. I now have a strong testimony of my God and savior, Jesus Christ, who loved me enough to put me on this Earth to learn to be like them so I can enjoy the blessings that they already enjoy.

How I live my faith

I am currently a supervisor in the women's organization for the church and a member of my ward's activity committee where I help plan and prepare all the fun things that we do. These are important callings for me so that I have the opportunity to help my fellow ward members stay activity and create the irreplaceable support system that this church offers (that I've used on a number of occasions during hard times). I like knowing that I am in a position that helps people to not feel alone and to make friends. I know that Christ was someone who spent time helping people and I know that I must do that same so I can be like him. I have done volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, Kids on the Move (in Orem, Utah), and Project Read (teaching adults to read and write). Doing these things allow me to have compassion for others and be more understanding of different people and different backgrounds. Plus, I get the added benefit of learning about how life is in different cultures (Project Read).
