Hi I'm Vickie

I am of Mother of 6, college student in Network Design and Management, Telecommunications Professional and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I help teenagers in our town by taking them in when they need a break from home life as part of a town program called Host Homes. Usually these kids come from broken homes, so we try to help them to see there can be a better, happier way to live. I have also volunteered my time running a camp for girls (over 100) in the summer to help them realize how special they are and help them to see who they can become. I love basketball, quilting and reading historical fiction.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon Family, however, when I was 17, I went to work in New York as a Mother's Helper. I lived with a non-LDS family. This is when I found out I wanted to live my life the way I was raised. I was offered Alcohol and Cigarettes and knew I didn't want to participate in that kind of behavior. Being very far away from my family also helped me to appreciate what my parents taught me. I could see how others lived and how they always seemed to be looking for happiness but never found it. I have also read the Bible and the Book of Mormon and prayed to know for myself that it is true. I got my answer. That answer is reaffirmed to me all the time when I continue to read the scriptures. There is such depth in them and I can always see different meanings in the words as they apply to my life. The scriptures strengthen me when I need them to help me keep going.

How I live my faith

I try to act like Jesus does every day of my life. I help those in need by listening to them and helping them with their problems. I try to be a good example in everything I do and teach my children to be respectful and honest. I have spent several years teaching and participating in the youth program. I love to visit an 86 year old lady who lives by me. She is such a joy! When I was younger, I learned how to use my Dad's chain saw because of a service project we were doing to provide sub for Santa for families in our city. I have found that if you are feeling bad about yourself, do some service for someone else and it will help you feel better. It has worked every time for me.
