Hi I'm Collette

I am a wife, mother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a lucky mom who gets to stay at home with my 3 yr old son and 14 month old daughter. We just moved to Silicon Valley about 8 months ago and are feeling very blessed to be here with a great job and a wonderful mix of people from many places all around us. I grew up in California with my 4 siblings and my mother and step-dad. We didn't always have the most money or the happiest family, but my brothers and sisters and I had each other. We loved going to the sand dunes and the river together. I went to Utah to work, went on an LDS mission to Spain, and went back to Utah to complete a degree in Elementary Education. I put myself through school by substitute teaching which later helped me get an internship teaching 4th grade. The day after I graduated, my husband and I were married, and I continued to teach for two more years. Now I am excited to apply what I have learned through my education and teaching toward my children. Besides teaching, I love many things. One of my new loves lately is cooking. I don't claim to be a gourmet chef, just a curious one. I love finding new recipes and trying them, I keep reminding my husband he is pretty lucky :). I also love singing, reading, and getting together with family and friends. My family lives far so I guess another new hobby is traveling to see family :).

Why I am a Mormon

I actually grew up as a Mormon or better said a Latter-Day Saint. My grandparents on my mothers side joined the church when my mom was about 16 years old. My mother married my dad and they kept bringing us to church every week. Even when my mom had 5 kids and was divorced, she would faithfully bring us to church no matter if it was at 9 am in the morning or later. I grew up loving the different songs that we sung as children and with the adults during sacrament. I learned a lot because good principles of the gospel were found in those songs. My favorites songs, which I now sing to my son, are about praying to a loving God and the temples of God. While growing up I think I believed in everything my parents and teachers told me about Jesus Christ and the Church. But when I was 18, I decided to gain my own faith in Christ and his teachings by reading the whole Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. After reading, I knelt in prayer and received my answer. Then through many experiences with study, prayer, teaching the gospel to others, I have grown in my faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings. I know that the Mormon Church, better said the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is His true church on this earth.

How I live my faith

I feel like I can best live my faith through love and service. I can always look for ways to help others with their needs and let them know I care through my words and kind acts. I think of what Jesus Christ would do and try to follow his example. I love looking at someone and trying to see them through God's eyes and not the "world's", there are a lot of beautiful, amazing, talented people that way.
