Hi I'm Laura

I'm a researcher. I'm a global health advocate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an active person and have a hard time doing nothing. I love cycling to work, yoga, and running. My spouse and I donate our porch to a local farm, and each week the farm drops off local organic vegetables to us and our neighbors. I love the fresh vegetables we receive and have been amazed at the delicious creations we cook together using fresh kale, purple carrots or golden beets! I also enjoy eating at great local restaurants and critiquing them online. People love my food reviews. In addition to a rich home life, I also have a rewarding career in global health research. I work in remote areas of the world trying to develop new innovations for health. My area of expertise is vaccines that are important for children's health. I love my work and enjoy travelling around the world!

Why I am a Mormon

Although we can all have spiritual experiences that change our path, I think the more important question is why I'm STILL a Mormon. Being a Mormon isn't easy; life isn't easy. I'm still a Mormon because I believe that I have made important promises with God. These promises include living a Christ-centered life and trying my best to obey God's commandments. When hard times come our way, when we have questions and even doubts, my spouse and I reflect on those promises and what they mean to us personally and as a couple. The conclusion for us is that they are real and we want to keep them. I feel God's power and positive influence as I try my best to keep the promises I have made with him. That is why I'm STILL a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My spouse and I are fully integrated in the church, and we love it! We recently had a special assignment to be in a congregation of all young, single students and professionals. In this congregation, my spouse was the bishop's helper for almost five years. This assignment ended last month and we are now attending a family congregation, where my spouse is teaching Sunday School (the New Testament). We miss the singles' congregation but are excited for our next adventure! I participate in my faith working with girls age 12-18. I have several other helpers that I oversee and together we organize lots of events and activities for the teenagers our area. I've done this assignment for four years and have really enjoyed getting to know each of the girls individually and understanding their diverse lives and backgrounds.
