Hi I'm Porter

I live in Colorado. I love my family, snowboarding, and camping, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a new parent and love my new baby girl. We moved to the Denver area from Pleasanton, CA in August 2010 for a masters program at CU Denver. Snowboarding is my passion, but love to get up in the mountains and mountain/road bike, hike, and let my dog swim to his heart's content.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in the church, I consider myself a convert. I was a very independent, free-spirited teenager, but found true happiness in growing a relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ. He is the foundation upon which all my beliefs are built. I came to a point in my life when I was 19 where I felt I had to know for myself what was true. I removed everything I had ever heard or been taught and started from scratch on only what I knew for myself through personal experiences. I knew one thing for certain, when I do what I know deep down is right (being good to others, being honest, outward instead of inward focus, etc.) I'm happy. From there I focused on Jesus Christ and read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and prayed to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for myself. This was all I could focus on for weeks, and little by little, the reality of a Savior, and the truthfulness of his teachings became more real than anything I had ever known. I had developed a relationship with Jesus Christ and felt the Spirit testify of the things I learned about him. With a solid foundation of faith in Jesus Christ I built my testimony upon his teachings.

How I live my faith

I enjoy the fellowship of other members and going to church. I enjoy working with the young men ages 12-18. I visit the two families I've been assigned to hometeach and make sure their needs are met every month. I take my wife to the temple monthly, it helps us gain a more eternal perspective. I look forward to teaching my daughter about her Savior and helping her find out what is true for herself. Most importantly, I live my faith by strengthening my relationship with Jesus Christ through doing what's right, and learning about him through scripture study and prayer.
