Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a first and foremost a wife and a mother. Even though the dirty diapers and sleepless nights can definitely be laborious I truly love what I do. I have some 'therapy sessions' three times a week as I wake up early and jog with some friends. I have been a jogger for about 15 years now. It is definitely a passion of mine and I hope to run for a long time. I also love reading. I love reading mostly for enjoyment, but I also love the intellectual side as well. My favorite books are The Scarlett Pimpernell, Jane Eyre, and of course, Harry Potter. I graduated from BYU with a degree in Business. Since my children have been born I have been a stay-at-home mom. It is the hardest job I have had but the most rewarding. Since becoming a stay-at-home mom I have discovered another passion: cooking. Cooking is not something I have always loved, but because it is something I do three or more times a day I decided I better learn to love it! My favorite thing to cook is bread - because the house smells like heaven!

Why I am a Mormon

I don't know specifically when I became fully converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but I am converted! I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was eight years old by my father. My parents and grandparents were both born into Mormon families. I have pioneer ancestors that crossed the plains and came to the Salt Lake Valley. To say I come from good stock would be an understatement. The church's emphasis on families and their relationships is one reason I am a Mormon. I love my family and the church does everything to strengthen us. We are encouraged to pray, eat, study scripture, play, laugh and worship together. Besides not wanting to be a weak link in my long line of faithful family members, I also want to be with my family forever. Because my parents were married in the Temple and I was as well, I will be with my family forever if I live faithfully. That knowledge brings me great peace of mind and great love for the Savior. Another reason I am Mormon is because it is the true church! It sounds so simple but I have received a personal witness from the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith was a prophet and the Book of Mormon is the word of God. The church gives me direction and is my compass for righteous living. I know that if I follow what the church teaches us about God's plan for us we will have true happiness. I also love teaching my children about Jesus and his infinite love for us. My children are so happy at church and feel loved by their Savior and other church members as well. Seeing my children choose the right and live a Christian life brings me a lot of happiness. I hope and pray they will be strong members of the Mormon Church because I know it will bring them great joy. Life is not perfect but being a Mormon can make it easier.

How I live my faith

My faith is something I live on a daily basis, not just on Sunday. I say individual prayers daily. We also pray as a family every morning and night. On Monday night we gather as a family and learn about the Gospel. We also read scriptures together and church magazines. We have the missionaries over for dinner occasionally, and love having other ward members over as well. Besides participating in personal and family religious practices, I am also involved in the Primary at our church. The Primary is the children ages 18 months to 12 years. I play the piano for them as they sing church songs. I absolutely love this assignment because hearing children sing about the Savior is very uplifting. I get to keep up my piano 'skills' as well. I also have the opportunity to visit three other women church members each month. I am assigned to keep track of them and make sure their spiritual and physical needs are met. Not only does this fulfill a practical purpose, but it also allows me to become good friends with some amazing women. I also love going to church activities such as: park day, barbeques, baptisms, cooking classes, monthly women's meetings, and a variety of other fun and uplifting activities. I try to live my faith in all aspects of my life from the movies I watch to the way I dress.
