Hi I'm John

I am an obstetrician, married with four beautiful children. I love sports, music, travel and people. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a large poor family. My parents encouraged the importance of an education. I always wanted to be a doctor. I went to college, medical school and residency and finally achieved my dream. I was single for many years. I met and married my wife in a most profound way. We had infertility problems for years. We finally adopted and then had three more children naturally. I have always enjoyed participating in sports. I love basketball and baseball in particular. I also love music and started piano lessons in medical school. I also love to travel. We have been all over America and in foreign countries as well. I especially enjoy meeting and being with people. I feel that God has richly blessed my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in an active LDS family but that does not mean that I did not have to become converted to the LDS lifestyle and belief system. As a young man I observed that the happiest people I knew all had values and principles that they lived by. Growing up, I knew a very kind and good doctor who helped many people anonymously. His goodness inspired me to want to be a physician. My parents taught me to work hard, to be honest and always do my best. My testimony of Jesus Christ grew as I studied the scriptures, prayed and tried my best to live as I was taught. I have had experiences of friends and family members who made poor choices and have lived to see the bitter sorrow and suffering they have experienced. I have also seen many good people have terrible things happen to them and have watched how their faith not only refined them but also strengthened them to pass through these trials with amazing grace and dignity. These real life experiences have further contrubuted to my testimony and belief. As a young man, I served a mission to Hong Kong for two years. That experience deepened my resolve to live a Christ-like life. The love I have for my wife and children has certainly deepened my testimony that God is love.

How I live my faith

I live my faith simply by trying to be good and do good to all people. Since I believe that we are all children of our Heavenly Father, it is not hard to love all people, even people who are very different from me. I personally read and study the scriptures regularly. As a family we read the scriptures daily in small amounts but consistently. We pray together as a family both morning and night and I say my personal prayers morning and night. Finally, I say prayers with my wife every night before going to bed. Of course with my profession as a baby doctor and being called away at odd times during the day and night, adjustments are made and my wife leads. We meet as a family every Monday night for a time of religous instruction, activities and desserts. We have learned that the secret is to involve everyone and make them short and simple. I am convinced that the most important relationship that I have outside of God himself is that with my wife. We are loyal and true to each other. I enjoy the various teaching opportunities while serving in various callings and responsibilites in the church. I feel the hand of the Lord every day and freely acknowledge that every blessing and good thing I enjoy comes from Him.
