Hi I'm Travis

I live in Austin, TX with my wife and six children. I write open-source software for scientists using Python, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a large family with 10 children. Through my interactions with my even larger extended family, and many friends, I have become very interested in people in general. I am intrigued and inspired by what people do and learn from their lives. Basically, I love to interact with the world. In particular, I love to read, play sports, program computers (especially for science, and engineering problems). I'm interested in a lot of fields: neuroscience, history, probability theory, electromagnetism, economics, mathematics, and computers. I now have a large family of my own with 6 children and a wonderful wife who is patient with all my interests. I love traveling (especially with my family).

Why I am a Mormon

Human individuality and dignity awes me. The unique complexity of our biological existence is inspiring and moving. I have also witnessed the power of change and transformation in people's lives. These observations are consistent with the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ as restored in its fullness through latter-day prophets such as Joseph Smith. The restored gospel teaches that we are all children of a Father in Heaven who loves us individually. This Father has provided a means through Jesus Christ by which we can become more and more like our Heavenly Parents. This message provides a consistent platform for transformation and lasting peace to those who practice its implications. I want my children to experience the same powerful and transformative experiences I have had as I have applied the doctrines of Jesus Christ in my life as taught both by the prophets of the past as well as by the prophets who speak today. I have repeatedly experienced the "fruits of the Spirit" emphasize to me that the patterns taught through the restored gospel of Jesus Christ bring me and my family happiness, peace, love, and comfort.

How I live my faith

I work with other leaders in my area to help them better minister to members of their local congregations. I have taught Sunday-school classes, taught Youth, and served as a missionary in the Canary Islands of Spain. I have helped administer a local congregation of the Church. I volunteer my time for all of these activities because I feel that the Church helps bring people closer to Christ which helps them live their life to its fullest. My activity in the Church allows me to associate with other like-minded people and together really accomplish wonderful things. In 2010, for example, with other individuals in the area, we helped re-build an activity center for troubled youth in our community.
