Hi I'm Tala

I'm a diaper changing, cookie baking, interior decorating, northern lights loving girl, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a wife & mother of two children. I moved to Colorado from Alaska 11 years ago, but I am still an Alaksan at heart. As a child I grew up in a cabin outside town with no running water or electricity. Now I live in suburban Denver where I enjoy modern conveniences. But I would move back in a heartbeat if I could convince my husband! I love to read, quilt & powerwalk to the Black-Eyed Peas. I also bake a mean chocolate chip cookie.

Why I am a Mormon

I dated a fellow in high school who was mormon. I made fun of him a lot but I also respected his family values & loved the way he treated me. He was the only guy I knew who held the door open for me was respectful towards me. I was curious to know more so I went to church with him. I remember watching President Ezra Taft Benson speak during a General Conference broadcast and I felt the Spirit of God touch my heart. I started to cry as I realized that he reminded me of Jesus. I say "reminded me" because it felt so familiar to me, like a truth that I had looked for for so long and finally found again, like coming back home. When my friend went on a mission at age 19 he gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon. At first I read it because I missed him but then I realized that it was bringing me peace & joy every time I sat down to learn more. The next year I was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I believe in being a good person wherever I am, I try to be a good neighbor and a good friend. I'm not perfect by far, but the church is a huge stabilizing force in my life. When I go to church I feel the Spirit of God which brings me happiness & determination to be a better person. I also love being part of a church community. It is easy to get lost in a city and sometimes hard to make friends. The church members are so friendly and supportive, it is wonderful to meet people with the same values as me, many of whom have become dear friends for life.
