Hi I'm Mary Elise

I grew up in a small town in Washington. I am a serving in the Colorado, Colorado Springs Mission. And I am a Mormon

About Me

Being one of nine children, I loved growing up in a loud, ever chaotic household. My family is huge with lots of cousins and aunts and uncles to keep track of; every get together is an event! Growing up in the rural evergreen forests of Washington I enjoy spending time out of doors hiking and camping and just enjoying the beauty of nature. Apart from nature I also find solace in taking a brush to canvas though I would never profess to be great at it .I love to read and even more I love to write. This passion for the written word lead me pursue a BA in philosophy. Though this is something for which I hold great love, I have at the moment put college and hobbies on hold and am serving a mission in Colorado. Since then missionary work has become the light of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Savior Jesus Christ with all my heart and it is because of this relationship more than anything else that I am a Mormon. I have a strong and abiding testimony that Jesus Christ has atoned for my sins and that through Him I can not only receive forgiveness, but strength, hope, charity, and love. I have felt the presence of His spirit in my life and know without a doubt that He guides me. God is a God of miracles and they are all around us if we just have the presence of mind to recognize His hand in all things. I have seen miracles in my life and I know that I have been the recipient of divine assistance when I really needed it. I am built by the strength of others as well; the examples of incredible men and women of faith in my life that have taught me how I want to live. I have seen that those who are most happy are those who are closest to their Savior and this is what I desire in my life. I have been blessed with a testimony of the truth of this gospel, one that was not given as a sudden burst of inspiration, but one which came little by little as I strive to do what was right. I have a real and abiding testimony of the prophet Joesph Smith, that he, like many before and after, was sincerely seeking truth and direction when God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared unto the boy Joseph and that through him the gospel of Jesus Christ has been once again restored upon the earth. I have found that nothing gives me more true happiness and joy than when I am striving to live according to the standards of my faith and follow the example of my Savior. This knowledge is so very important to me, it is my anchor as well as my guiding star without which I would be lost in this great world. It is the light which guides me through this life, gives me direction, and gives me hope for a life after this where I may live eternally with my Savior, my God, and my family.

How I live my faith

As I serve a full time for the church I am blessed to live my faith everyday as I strive to share the beautiful message of Christ's restored gospel! Though it was a difficult decision to make initially, putting my life on hold, it has been a wonderful and fun-filled experience that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Mary Elise
One of the great blessings of the restored gospel is Heavenly Fathers law concerning the care we give our bodies, which are a precious gift from our Father in Heaven. As the creator of our bodies, it follows that God would know pretty well how they work. There is a deep connection between our physical health and our spiritual sensitivity. For example, when you have a head cold, it is hard to concentrate on even the most mundane of task, let alone concentrate of church or reading the scriptures and feeling the Holy Spirit. Heavenly Father promises great blessings as we take care of our bodies after the order He has given. Within this order, or law, known as the Word of Wisdom, benefits of proper eating and physical and spiritual health are given. In addition our Father in Heaven warns and even commands against the partaking of certain substances including tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and other harmful or illicit substances.
